Great basses no one is playing

Dude, for a brief moment, I thought you were me, because I took this picture yesterday. My bass is a "HK" (HeKe-Vertrieb), though, the only difference is the sticker on the headstock. There was a swedish brand selling these basses under their name, too, it was Woodo Guitars, I think.

What was your first bass guitar?

Harley Benton HBP-120. From Thomann. Cheapest bass I could find.

How fast have you learned a new technique?

I started 3-fingers and slap the very first day I got my bass, so they feel natural to me. I am no master of any or make Wooten-esque jaw-dropping slap solos, but sure I can play it. Double thumb was really hard for me! But finally, I've already got the basics. Sweeping wasn't too difficult for...

    5 String Bass Songs

I don't really know about any but the B string will help if you don't want to detune your bass, and there are loads of Drop-D classic rock songs. Try "Another Brick in the Wall, Part 2" by Pink Floyd for example.

Most fun song to play on bass!

There are a lot... I really enjoy playing Bloodmeat and Sequoia Throne by Protest the Hero and Dead & Grotesque by Spawn of Possession. Also YYZ by Rush is really fun to play! Punk songs like Maxwell Murder by Rancid of 'Merican by Descendents... Roundabout by Yes probably is but I never learn...

    Who has only one bass?

Just my HK. And I love it, it's almost everything I need. Sometimes I feel like I need one or two frets more or a low F#, but I can't live with that. Sure it would be good to have a fretless twin or a back-up or a slap machine, but I don't really need it!!

    Overdrive or distortion

Carrots? Don't you mean waffles? I don't know what to vote. I love the Ibanez PD-7 Attack settings, that are not really distortion or overdrive, but they make the sound a lot more aggressive, really. I also love the wide range of overdrive you can get with an ODB-3.

What Is Your String Height/Setup For Two-Handed Tapping?

My B string is like 0.226 inches from the fretboard at the 12th fret and I'm OK with two handed tapping.

Dominic "Forest" Lapointe : anyone knows him?

The bassist (now) from Rings of Saturn pointed me to Beyond Creation. That material is SICK! Amazing lines and bass work. And I also have to digest the whole Augury discography. Atheretic album is absolutely great for sure. I love his playing style. One of the best metal bassist and I'm sure...

How do I get rid of Sax player?

I have included alto sax in my (kinda-technical) death metal band and it worked. If he just plays sax, maybe you could teach him other instruments. Y'all play the basic drums, guitars, bass and vocals, then he could be the other guy who does backing vocals, percussion, keys, horns, harmonica...?

I've heard the "Megatars" are cheaper, but I don't know how much. Also, my 7-string bass was only 420 € (incl. shipping), so you may be interested in that. Have a look in eBay, seach "HeKe-Vertrieb", I'm REALLY happy with mine.

This one's new to me: "Blackened Death Metal"???

Yes, you got it right, just a combination of the tremolo black metal riffs, their image (costumes, paint...), vocals (high shrieking) and lyrics (anti-religious mainly) with death metal. A good example would be Behemoth. YouTube "Ov Fire and the Void". I actually like all this music, death metal...

    Picking with pinky

I can reach higher tempos easier with a pick, but I don't think it really fits the songs or my playing style (I know, at those tempos, anything will fit, probably you'll hear a muddy wall of sound, but still...). I know it can be done, and I think it will be the method that works for me the best.

    Picking with pinky

Thank you very much! I always play 3-2-1, but I don't feel that limited, so 4-3-2-1 is how I'm trying to play. This is really useful, I'll start right now. What I think is that there are other techniques or aspects of my playing which I should focus on and improve more important than this, but...

Which 2 bassist had the biggest impact on your style ? V2.0

Just two... God... that's a hard one. I'd go with: Ryan Martinie ChaoTH (from Unexpect) Ryan's tone and lines are amazing. How he can play counterparts, not just to follow the guitars and add slap lines... awesome. And ChaoTH is the one who showed me ERBs weren't Chapman Sticks, it wasn't...

I've already done a search over the forums and didn't find a topic like this, so I hope I don't mess anything up opening a new one. Well, first of all, this is the problem: I'm mostly a metal player (although I LOVE jazz, funk and a lot of different styles) and I've already learnt the...
