PYPB 41 - Fred The Goldfish

After years of pedals on the floor- I finally bought a proper case. These are most all of the pedals I use for both bass and guitar, all in one place. I've got a home-made blender on the way, which i'll add to the top right. Other than that, I've got the cravings under control.

1 spot vs. isolated power supplies

My two cents: paying $100-200 for a power supply is ********. You're paying for a pretty enclosure and very limited improvement on functionality and convenience (aka getting a variety of different voltages out in the same box: 9v, 12v, 18v, etc). Think about it, if you're getting dirty power...

    Boss HM-2 Re-housing?

If it were me, I wouldn't. Boss pedals are rock-solid already. The older one's have alot of character. I've rehoused a few older pedals, but never a boss one. The size of the circuit board is what stopped me. It fills the boss case so perfectly, you really couldn't find a smaller case (and...

best delay pedal in your opinion

I've got three 80's boss delays: DM-2, DM-3, DD-3 (the first version with the large power adapter and big chip.) They're old gorgeous pedals, the analog pedals are dark and rich, and the DD-3 is a little lighter. My favorite delay pedal ever has to be the DM-3. Even if there's no signal coming...

Smashed up pick guard? Here's how I fixed mine!

Holy ****. You bleed a lot! (and I thought I picked too hard). There's nothing quite like feeling that hot, almost comforting sensation in your hand. Play with passion my brother. I'll post a thread when I get my tour dates mostly planned out. Hopefully I can hook up with some of these rad...

Smashed up pick guard? Here's how I fixed mine!

Rad website, but not my style. Why pay $50 to fix something I could do myself? I realize you're joking, but that's a big problem for me. I've broken several input jacks from the cable getting stepped on, not to mention the cable getting ripped out of the pedalboard several times each set...

Smashed up pick guard? Here's how I fixed mine!

It's my fault really. People come on this site to see huge pedal boards and giant walls of amps? I like the term "trench bass" alot though. Kudos.

Smashed up pick guard? Here's how I fixed mine!

Well.......it's a hardshell plastic-like case that you store your bass in when you're not playing. You can probably pick one up for a few Jackson's. I had already bolted my own "strap locks" in before I discovered those beer washers. I'd try them only if I got to drink the beer first!

Smashed up pick guard? Here's how I fixed mine!

Jesus! Come on boys, appreciate a little creativity, will ya? This was a $0 repair- who cares what it looks like? It harder to break now! I guess I've only ever owned an instrument to play it, never to use as decorative fireplace piece. Believe it or not, you can do a lot of harm to a bass...

Smashed up pick guard? Here's how I fixed mine!

You're....hilarious? Sometimes, strap-locks aren't enough. Sometimes strap-lock + duct tape is enough. And sometimes, you need even more duct tape!

Smashed up pick guard? Here's how I fixed mine!

I play in this band: http://youtu.be/IPmGR-uEqpE. Things get a little crazy sometimes- someone (maybe me?) punched in my pick guard and electronics during the last show. The solution? Wiring the pickups straight to the new jack and covering the holes with a piece of scrap metal. ARMORED...

How to get that vicious Hardcore Punk/Powerviolence bass sound

That's a Rat. Specifically a big-box vintage Rat. You could pick one up for under a $100 right now: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Pro-Co-Vintage-Rat-/150930551417?pt=Guitar_Accessories&hash=item2324297279 Trust me, grab a Rat and you'll be happy. Young Widows, Circa Survive, Jesus Lizard, and...

    Sticky thread for pedal demos?

I love pedals, but I hate searching for decently produced demos on youtube. What do ya'll think of having a permanent sticky thread where we can keep a permanent list of quality pedal demo videos?

    No pedals player

I was always obsessed the the 'ole Jesus Lizard bass sound. I've probably gone through a dozen dirtboxs and several amp/cab setups. I finally picked up an old 80's big-box proco Rat and I was done. Other than a tuner, an occasional Russian muff (when the moods right) I've got all I could...

Anyone use mixer aux send/return as an chained effects loop?

Absolutely. I use a cheap 25$ 4-channel mixer when I record to blend different distortions.

    ASHDOWN 4X10 BASS CAB

I have a Ashdown Mag410T. Based on the information on the back panel, the cab is rated at 300 watts and was built in 1999. I picked it up second hand for $100, the tweeter is blown out and there is no tweeter control in the back. I play anything from really dirty, distorted punk to softer...

I've tried pretty damn hard to use the pedals I recklessly buy (there's not that many really). I always end up returning to this setup. Simplicity is beautiful I suppose. Bass ---> tuner ---> rat ---> amp

    Ampeg v4 or v4b?

Craigs selling two near my area: a v4 for $700 and a v4B for $500 I've really want to get a big ole ampeg tubester for.....forever really. I really like the v4, because as I understand, its useable for guitar as well (and has a filthy ovderdrive channel.) Wise men of the...

    Building and Modding

+1 to all of that! The first thing I modded was an old boss ds-1. I ordered a monte allums kit for $25. About one month after I performed the mod, I realized all the mod really did was switch the clip section from diodes (I think) to led's. I then realized that I paid $25 for about $3 of...

THIS is why every bass player needs a RAT

Alot of people use blender pedals to preserve their low end, while their flavor of distortion or overdrive may change through the song, night, life, etc.

THIS is why every bass player needs a RAT

I want some umph when I dig in

My solution is FREE. Step 1. Steal one of your guitarist's pick. Step 2. Play your bass with the pick! Seriously, before you go preamp and overdrive pedal shopping, try playing with a pick! If you want more clean, back off your attack; if you want more drive, then pick harder baby!
