    Fender Jazz Elite preamp

I have a Jazz Elite. The first issue was the chincy 9 pin input jack. It failed twice! (Contacts stuck together and drained batteries). Then the preamp started being wonky-cut out, buzzing, etc. I put in a Sadowsky preamp and am very very please with it now.

Have you ever regretted modding your bass?

Yes. An Elite Jazz Bass. My wife picked it out for me. Loved it, but never used the active part. Plus the Jack is real chincy IMO. So I put all passive controls. Few months ago my wife passed and I felt I needed to revert it to the original because of how proud she was when she picked it out. I...

    Monster Cable

I’m not exaggerating. I was at Guitar Center deciding on a cable. Sales rep told me the Monster cable warranty is so good, I could cut the cable in half and get another one-no questions asked. Fast forward a couple years, warranty was non existent. I had to go through Monster, describe the...

What piece of equipment do you want...'just because' ?

A Hofner Club bass. A German one. I dunno why really, I’ve never played one, never even held one. But it’s short scale and has that thump, and oh ya-Tina Weymouth plays one And also a vintage Fender Jaguar. My first guitar hero (my uncle Gary) played one. He bought it new in ‘64 I believe. As...

POLL: which side of the stage is your area?

I like the everyone, especially the drummer, to my left. Because I’m blind in my right eye. When I play at church, drummer is on my left, rest of ensemble is on my right. Makes it very difficult, but I make it work

    70s Robert Palmer...Who knew?

Embarrassed to say I only know his 3 biggest hits. In my defense, at that period of time (80’s )- I was into hair metal and Robert Palmer wasn’t hair metal. So I dismissed a lot of music for no other reason than that ☺️

Which phrase annoys you the most?

Or describing something for sale as “mint”, then go on to describe the defects. As in- guitar is mint, just has some buckle rash, a scratch, a missing knob, but it is “mint:

Which phrase annoys you the most?

Non Bass related: the ——— community. As in the “black” community, the “gay” community, or whatever. Just bugs me. also, and athletes are the worst offender- is the phrase “we’re going to war”. Um, no you’re not! Is anybody shooting at you? Are people dying? No, it’s a damn game

    consciousness-altering songs or albums

I grew up in a household in the 70’s with Country. I loved it. My aunt gave me a stereo and record player, and I do t know if it was accidental or on purpose, but Ted Nugent “Double Live Gonzo” was in the record player. I was hooked to say the least! It had it all-distortion, screaming, guitar...

    Why don't I feel like a musician?

I just started myself. I’m slow. But slow and steady, little bits at a time and you will see steady improvement. I got some Carol Kaye material and it is awesome.

    Why don't I feel like a musician?

Do you read bass clef? That’s a good start in my opinion. Listen to some of the masters, Duck Dunn comes to mind, and pay attention to what they do. I loved Duck’s style, very repetitious and really outlines the chords.

How do you politely decline after audition? The case of the disappearing Drummer.

Is there any way the drummer had personal problems going on? Or a medical issue? I admit, it seems weird that the others didn’t at least address the situation with drummer. Like “ sorry, but he’s got severe diarrhea or something”

    Em9 to Bm7: why does E to A 'work'?

I agree here totally. What sounds fine unaccompanied doesn’t always sound right playing with other instruments.

    Em9 to Bm7: why does E to A 'work'?

I guess your right. From now on I’ll make sure all my bass lines grate on peoples ears and make them cringe

    Em9 to Bm7: why does E to A 'work'?

My two cents. I was taking Bass and guitar lessons from a guy with a Jazz background. He had me learn theory. He didn’t buy the myth that theory hurts creativity. That said , he said music (should) sound pleasing to the ear. So if I’m playing something and it sounds good, even if I can’t explain...

    stimulus check activity....no politics please...

Bass wise-Fortunately I have all I need/want. If I got a new Bass I’d play it for a bit, then it would be relegated to second fiddle. I’m content.

    Replacing OEM input jack

Hi all. Merry Christmas! I have an Elite Jazz Bass. Love it, except the Achillies Heel (IMO) is the input jack. Very flimsy, and this is the third time it has failed in 2 years. The contacts stick and shorts the battery. Zaps them dead in less than a week. At one time I ripped out the preamp...

    What’s your #1 mod regret?

I did the same on my Jazz. Instead of soldering extension wires on pickups, I went to the source itself and promptly ruined a pickup!

    What’s your #1 mod regret?

Fender Elite Jazz. Never had active electronics before, and wasn’t fond of them. When the cheap input jack (weak point of this Bass) went, I ripped out the active electronics and went passive. My crappy solder job (I’m blind in one eye, and bad sight in the other) made for a not so nice sounding...

    Mesa Boogie, Help me Decide

Good luck on your endeavor! Any Mesa in my opinion, is great. Just narrowing it down is a little harder. I bought my D-800+ sight unseen and only You-Tube videos for reference. It’s a wonderful amp. I pretty much set it and forget it, occasionally do a little tweaking. No experience on other...

    Recommend me an Amplifier Head

I’ll echo Mesa. I have the D-800+. I’m a set a tone and pretty much leave it guy, and it’s great for that. Or, you can really tweak to your hearts content if you want. It just works. Quality is superb. Andy has been most helpful when I had questions on it. Some May say it’s expensive, but to me...

    Active or Passive

I have an Elite Jazz. It had a passive switch. Thing is, I hated the active sound, and it was a battery killer (yes I unplugged it between uses). Anyhoo,I didn’t buy it for the active part. The clincher was when the jack went bad and I could only get one from Fender at the time. Took forever...

    What makes it "yours"?

I’ve enjoyed this thread. Interesting what people do/don’t do to their bass. On a side note-if I was ever to become a thief, two things I couldn’t steal. A man’s tools, or his musical Instrument. One (or both) he makes a living with, and an instrument is just too personal And sentimental

    What makes it "yours"?

I bought an elite Jazz. Hate the active electronics. Put a pre-wired Emerson Jazz control set on it. Plugged the unused jack on the end with a carriage bolt and the unused toggle switch hole with a plastic grommet. Odd looking ? Sure. But it’s mine

    1st Pedal To Get

I was looking for a pedal to buy. Not even sure what it was. Just wanted to “add a little something”. But I looked and looked and when I thought I settled on one, the next day I found something else. Then I asked why am I doing this? I bought T.I. Jazz Flatwounds and whalla-my tone. A thumping...

    Rewiring Elite Jazz Bass

I’ve had my Elite for a year now, and I do not like the active electronics, at all.. The output Jack is a 9 pin stereo square type that for whatever reason I’ve had to replace twice. It gets sloppy and cuts out. I’m just going to make it passive and have exactly what I want. My question is, do...

    Dumb Salesman at GC

This. I too have a wry sense of humor. Many times it goes over great, we laugh, whatever. If it thuds, I explain I’m weird. But never am I mean spirited or think I’m above someone

A P/J is a good idea if you don't have a Precision, but a wrong idea if you think you need a Jazz

I’m lost here. So we can’t get/play what we want? Have to follow what someone else has an opinion about?

    Fender American Pro Jazz disappointing

I agree, return it. If it isn’t for you, it isn’t for you. Some people abuse the generous return policy by sampling over and over until by happenstance get it right. That in my opinion, isn’t fair.
