Well my mom tried to make me a fat kid, but my poverty class was more of the emaciated variety, as opposed the slovenly fools cursed to live in food deserts.

Great idea on the oatmeal, which is now offered in tasty cake form. My kids really enjoy these treats...more than they do the strop, anyway. Up to them which they get next!

Hey, I resembled that remark, which is probably why I became a bass player! My nickname at age 12 was Baby Huey, and I'd hide behind the upright because I was so self-conscious. Funny thing though, I actually did have a 'gland' problem with my thyroid that caused the weight gain.

To the OP - all I can say is smooth move Ex-Lax! (My favorite expression as a 12yo).

Somewhere between 12 and 18 years old pretty much every male child goes through a stage where he thinks he knows everything. So no big deal.

It doesn't happen to females until they get married......no matter the age.

Wasn't arguing that at all. I merely said that having perfect pitch doesn't make you a great songwriter. I'd also say that it doesn't make you more musical necessarily either.

One of the greatest songwriters of all time couldn't sing worth a damn, so you're right about that; I'm really not sure how hearing life as music doesn't make you more musically inclined by default though.

That's essentially arguing that an athletic 6' 10" man isn't more likely to be a better basketball player than the average Joe.

Of course having perfect pitch won't make you a brilliant musician in and of itself, there is still technical facility to contend with, but it's a massive advantage; if you'd ever actually met someone with perfect pitch you'd understand, it's almost as if they're an alien or have super powers.

The last guy I knew who had it was a horn player; you could shout any classic TV or movie theme at him during a rehearsal, and regardless of what tune you were playing or what key you were in he could quote it, instantly.

Now let's get back to mocking fat children...I'd hate to derail the thread

Did it ever occur to you that a history of sexual abuse might have a bit to do with why this 15 year old girl is the way she is? Seriously - read your second paragraph and then take a step back and think about what sexual abuse does to a child.

We've done that. A lot. The other girl is also a victim of sexual abuse - from her cousin. There seems to be a lot of that around here. But sometimes you have to get past the cause and get to what you have to work with today. Whenever you are spending time helping one person, you are avoiding helping another. You have to choose how to use your resources most effectively. This isn't like the movies, where the guy always comes around in the end.

In the 1980's, when I lived in Seattle, we had a green card carrying Mexican woman living with us for six weeks while we tried to find her a job. Her six kids were living with us too. We found her a job and she quit after two days because she "wanted to be with her kids". I don't blame her. She was making $1,100 a month on welfare and only $1,300 at the job. It seems to be a disincentive, if you get my drift.

We tried. She moved to public housing. The only lasting remembrance of that experience was my three daughters getting head lice.
