Ambient/Post-Rock/Textural bass playing thread

Get off his lawn. He'd rather be mad and bash on Red Panda than get a reply and a fix...I don't understand it either, but you can't help someone who doesn't want help and from what I'm reading ugly would rather make a point than get his pedal fixed. Ima leave it alone at this point, but yeah...you, me, everyone else on the planet has had positive experiences with Red Panda so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Just to be clear, me posting this was not any sort of criticism of ugly's approach here. I'm just glad my pedal got fixed, that's all.

if someone is philosophically against social media or has other reasons they can’t do it, it’s not really worth bagging on them, imho.

also, imo, if the company has time to check social media messages, they should have time to answer email as well.

this is a prime component of customer service.

it’s good business.

i’ve seen companies who don’t that suffer lasting damage.

personally, i think it’s time to let this subject die.

Yeah, look...whatever you feel is enough for you to do is fine, but if you ask why is it that person A and person B have had good experiences and person C did not and an answer is given that person A & B tried something that person C did not...well, there's your answer. To paraphrase a quote often attributed to Albert Einstein - "Insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results."

Just because we make up in our heads what good customer service should be, doesn't mean that a company operates in that way...and when we talk about "companies" like Red Panda, realize you are talking about less than a handful of people (I think someone said that Red Panda is currently just 2 people?) so just like you don't like instagram, maybe whomever is tasked with communications doesn't like to check the spot you posted...or maybe the one or two emails you sent slipped through the cracks? If I paid $300 for a pedal and it wasn't working, I wouldn't give up so fast, plus with such positive experiences for others, I gotta think that a little more effort and you'll get the same service that I and LordR got?

In other tangential news, I decided to pop into the Red Panda facebook user group (that is not actively monitored by Red Panda) and saw some posts talking about Ugly's issue. It seems that it is related to the new firmware, newer versions of the pedal (that extend loop time and enable stereo) and is also tied to using the pedal in a stereo configuration setting. Some users reported switching to mono and the clicking going away. Seems like a bona fide bug...so I'd expect a fix from Red Panda at some point. If it was me, I wouldn't give up so quickly. It takes just as much time to shoot off another email or a post to them as it does to whine about them on talkbass...or go old school and make a few phone calls. It might be easy to miss/ignore one or two messages, but the squeaky wheel gets the grease.

I'm old (school) so I'm not above sending an actual hand or type written letter in the mail when all else fails. The nice thing about snail mail is that because nobody uses it anymore it stands out when a letter comes in on paper instead of electronically. Just a thought.

ETA: I am one of those philosophical naysayers who hates relying on social media because reasons. Guess I'm weird.

Hardly. It's a toxic swamp that has a lot to do with why almost half the US is about as coherent as Syd Barrett in 1969 right now.

I follow a few luthiers on IG; I post nothing there. I have a secret FB acct (that @steubig somehow found, but I made it easy) that has nobody I actually know in person, there. I just follow several synth pages, check them every day, and then log off, as well as use it to promote my own music. How so many people willingly gave every intimate detail of their personal lives to a huge corporation to monetize, I will never understand. I don't give a crap about ugly baby pics, selfies of middle-aged people just fishing for complements because their looks went to poopie and their spouses don't wanna bang em anymore, what someone ate for dinner, or what batcrap insane conspiracy their racist uncle is promoting.

I'm actually fine with that aspect of social media, especially when stuck at home in a pandemic. I'm totally down for photos of things people cooked, their pets, and children doing weird, gross, or funny things. Selfies fishing for compliments are annoying. Selfies doing hilarious things are fine. Of course I get to decide which is which.

We can all come together on the rejection of racist uncles and their batpoopie theories.

The other thing about FB is that it has gobbled up all sorts of other media. When I was first diagnosed with my cancer there were listservs with archives. Easily searchable, public, you could use an anonymous email. Then they migrated to BBSes where you could operate under an alias, and material was more private but still archived and searchable. Then somehow it all wound up on Facebook. On the plus side, I am now in touch with 1000 people with my condition and get information I can get nowhere else. On the down side, it's all attached to our names and profiles, it's not public at all, and you have to agree to all these terms to access it. Also a plus: I've lived with my condition for so long to see all this go down. Can't argue with that part.

But really, what I glean from the latest turn in this thread, besides that I need to buy some more pedals, is that my stalking skills may be lacking.

I think its your night to wake up @lordradish at 3am with a phone call.
We rotate so he never knows who it is exactly.

I can't seem to find @JES 's reverb thread....has anyone tried the Old Blood Noise Endeavors Procession reverb? Any thoughts on it? The v2 of it has soft switches, they fixed a previous low end loss issue, and it has an internal master volume that can boost the 100% wet to be unity or more. Will try that one if JES finds the new Walrus Audio R1 loses too much volume at 100" wet.

I also didn't know about this...really grateful that you're with us my friend.

Thanks. Me too. Stage 4 for 11 years and counting! I have good doctors and do what I’m told. There are new drugs that work well to stop the cells from growing. The drugs are the reasons my hands get so sensitive and I wear gloves, @monsterthompson and I have a disability chat several dozen pages back. Except for a paralyzed vocal cord, all my symptoms come from the treatment. I really don’t notice the disease.

in other news, I’m setting up a 3:30am robocall for tonight.
