From 1981. I was playing a giant pile of oscillators -- 6 or 7 GenRad square wave oscillators and 3 Hewlett-Packard sine wave oscillators all in a 6' tall rack with a custom passive mixer, all cobbled together from military surplus parts -- and my friend Geoff was throwing trash down a concrete staircase, and also playing alto sax from the opposite end of that staircase. Assembled on a 4-track 1/2" deck.

Clearly a labor of love. I think a lot of the music I was making in the very early 80s was created expressly to thumb my nose at my Berklee professors. Ah, youth...

I wholeheartedly support music made to spite academics, sounds great!

Anyone here using a loop switcher for silently turning your pedals on and off? That loud clicking of the footswitch from my older pedals is no bueno. Trying to find a work around.

The Damnation Bloop and Boss LS2 are the only devices I’ve used. It’s been a while since the Boss was on my board but I don’t recall any issues with it. It’s quite popular.

I’m using an RJM loop switcher on my main board. (Well, at this minute I’m propping my head up on a couch at our rental cottage hoping to see a deer or beaver or something outside the window, but you get the point.) I don’t know if it’s silent enough for you but it doesn’t have that loud CLICK of older pedals. Wickedly programmable but there is a learning curve. Support is good. I’ve tried out the Boss ones in the store and they seemed decent too and perhaps more limited but easier to learn. I’ve also used whatever the equivalent of the Boss LS2 was in 1990-3. Simple and flawless. Inbetween there is something like this: Swiss Things Pedalboard Reconciler — EarthQuaker Devices

the main thing is that if you get a loop switcher and you want to do anything more than turn on and off individual channels, you’ll need to budget time for programming and possibly wall punching.

I've got a BOSS PSM-5 loop selector permanently hardwired to my Korg G5, not because the Korg makes loud clicking when bypassed but because the Korg sounds like ass when bypassed.

I think the Ritters are way over the top, for the most part. I did see someone play one that wasn't Phil Lesh, but it was a much more subtle design.
