Anybody else afraid of any forums here?

One reason why I’ve never been intimidated by anything here is because I’m a complete musical nobody with no reputation to protect, and I don’t pretend (even to myself) I know all there is to known about bass despite having played it as long as I have.
I’ve found if I see myself as a lifelong student, park my ego at the door, and do my best to maintain what the Zen practitioners call “beginner’s mind,” there’s nothing to feel intimidated about. If I don’t know about (or am wrong about) something, it’s not a problem. That’s the main reason I come here - to learn things I don’t know and to correct the things I’ve gotten wrong.
If somebody finds my shortcomings amusing or worthy of contempt that’s their thing, not mine. Like the Discordian philosoper Hagbard Celine so famously (in some esoteric circles) said: “If you’re truly smart you’ll never sign on to anybody’s head trip but your own. Kallisti!”

Now, that is a refreshing habit. If more people read all of the posts on a thread before commenting on the OP, there would be far fewer misunderstandings and friction. At least that has been my (recent) experience
I had to jump ship yesterday due to a bunch of commitments, and the purchase of a new phone I don't know how to use yet (I'm an old guy with a Samsung S9 now). I got up to the 10th page here and then had to quit. Taking too long. But I'm patting myself on the back, as I think I did pretty well.
No idea what movie that is, but I've dreamed that I was right there, in the middle of it all. Will watch that video before bed tonight in hopes or putting myself there again.

Yes, yes.... I feel, that the DB side of Talkbass is some sort of unreachable Delta quadrant to which you must gain access through some kind of educational and experiential wormhole, which I have yet to discover the entrance to. The idea of a giant violin with a long, unmarked ebony fingerboard, plucked with the fingers, being a useful tool to create accurate and expressive music confounds me to this day.......
I will admit that it takes some practice and skill. I had a hard time there before someone made me laugh once. Then I found that if you're careful and choose your words wisely, you can actually even insult them and - they'll take it as a good ribbing. A good practice technique: post something regarding an upright bass. Let them trip over each other on that one for a little while, and just sit back and watch. You'll get a good idea how things operate, and then be able to move forward with a little more confidence.
That's why editors make (or should I say, take) so much so much money.

Yea, I posted something about how people should act like adults and respect other people's choices instead of being *&$% heads about it and I got written up. Now I don't do that anymore. I feel your pain.

Anything on the upright side. I accidentally went there once. But only once.
I ain’t ascaired. But I do put on a coat and tie to try and look respectable when I venture over to the double bass side.
Since you want to bring up your warnings... The warning that sent you over the points threshold limit you got was in response to quoting a staff member and telling them how to do their job. Rule 5. The other warning for points was for calling a bass ugly. We have a long standing rule about calling basses ugly here (8 years before you joined, actually). Besides those 2, there have been 8 other violations on your record since you joined, and this was your first suspension. So....
Your warning was for breaking Rule 1. You called someone a "dickhead".

We are indeed a diverse bunch here on TB for sure and overall I've had some great interactions with some great folks here many of whom know quite a lot. I'm usually amazed at the level of expertise when looking for help and hear other members (players?) quote electrical principles on pickups, active wiring, talk about their builds, incredibly technical wood repairs (that I"ve learned much from) and a lot of things average "players" either don't know about, care about or don't, won't or can't do for themselves. Some get rubbed and rub back and tempers flare sometimes on a lot of stuff (don't use any effects lately). Now the digression: An eye opener for me was the 60's shell pink jazz bass thread (several incarnations and some removed). A guy who hardly plays bought a 60's jbass for 300 bucks from a janitor who got it from the family of a guy who passed (probably not a great idea to put all that out there with a hint of gloat, ya think?). That thread brought the righteous, the technicals, the jealous and a lot of other folks into some mighty heated words about the deal, ethics, whether the bass was legit, repainted, OP's relationship with the dead guys family (ah yes), was it over-valued and a lot of whatever. Sometimes our words invite the digs and probes and sometimes there are those just waiting to engage their own frustrations on others. I was curious about the bass and just kept trying to figure out what the heck was the bass' story and gave up when comments looked consistently really ugly. Like many things in life, people can find the smallest things to make the biggest stinks about and I feel anyone's pain who doesn't want to have the wrath of an angry bass enthusiast on here reign down on them. I mean, it could just be some big fat guy in his bed eating corn flakes right here in the USA right and not some psycho-russian bass-bot trying to turn us against each other! Is bass-bot

I started “foruming” on the old Eden forum. They used to paint Talkbass as a regular blast furnace.I was an active member of the Harmony Central forums back in their epic flame wars days. I'm not askeerd of nuthin' no more.
TB's always been pretty tame in comparison to lots of other forums.
But stuff slowed down over there, and I discovered Genz Benz, so I came over here and really felt like most posters are upbeat and polite. Maybe a little snark here and there but it’s good snark. Funny.
But what struck me most was the wealth of knowledge here. And back then Greenboy and BFM were posting here. It’s still an amazing place for from-the-horses mouth insight. And the straight dope on the best stuff.
I guess I'm not getting why people break the rules and then whine about the consequences. If you don't like the rules, don't join the forum. It isn't rocket science. I've had three warning; all for breaking the rules. I don't cry about it, I just try to learn from it and to stay out of threads that I KNOW are going to $%& me off, or tempt me to say something that will #*$& someone else off (not always successfully).
If you follow this one simple rule, you won't break any of the other rules - Don't be a Richard Cranium (unless it's your screen name).

I've learned to be afraid of "Android vs. iPhone" threads!
Why are people getting points for breaking rules? One would think they should get demerits.
All of them, and on each and every website!
I just don't feel I know all the rules and protocol, and never will!
Much like my 70-something year old parents did when they got their VCR in the early eighties.
They sort of knew and understood(?) you could record one thing while watching another after a while, but trying to set the timers...good luck.
And if their power was temporarily interrupted, you could be sure that clock would still be blinking when you got there...that about sums up my internet savvy and confidence.
