Truly wonderful pickups, nice to have three shades of great. Personally, I'm really connecting with this pickup configuration more than any other on Roger's basses - standard JJ, PJ, etc. Super Js rock!

Always thought Sadowsky's are perfectly balanced, with no neckdive at all. Anyone has a Sadowsky with neckdive? My new Sadowsky has.
It also has an issue with the bridge pickup. It's a 5-string Pj. If I play the A-string it sounds a lot weaker than the E-string or the D-string, specially played with a pick. I can compensate that a bit by changing the string height and the pickup height. But its not like it should be. In the past some Laklands had the same problem. It seemed they had dual coil pickups and the split was almost exactly underneath the string.

All Fender-type basses I’ve tried neckdive on my knee, most don’t on a strap. You could try a single coil for the bridge pu, if you can deal with possible hum.

I had the same issue with neck dive when I got my satin deluxe. I found it was because the bass was so light it was moving about and slipping to my right side, which had the effect of dropping the neck. I got a Gruv Gear duo strap and that locks the bass in position much better. Not cheap, so I'll need to get Dunlop strap locks for my Warwick Sadowsky when it arrives, so I can use the the same strap. I haven't noticed any issues with the "A" string on my satin deluxe, should be the same pickups I think.

That’s a pretty significant gap for the bass playing community. A lot of players, especially younger and struggling players can’t afford the marquee instruments; and this has always been a low cost option for Roger’s sound for that segment. Most unfortunate.

Counterpoint:

I was a younger/struggling musician in the 90's who mowed a crap ton of yards to buy an expensive Stingray 5 brand new. Way more in 90's dollars than what today's young player can snag one of these less-expensive Sadowsky's for. Kind of jealous of the options they have in 2020 (at least as far as bass options!!).

I get wanting to 'juice up' a bass you already have a good feel for and all, but still.

another counterpoint... as i recall, the new metroexpresses are gonna' be like half the price of before, like under 1K, right? just buy the whole darn bass now instead! :)

Right, when and if that happens. Agreed. And, I presume that was @ElMon ’s point.

Still, that will also mean that folks like Nino Valenti and Pat Wilkins won’t have access anymore. Which, I get it and that’s Roger’s call for sure. I just think it is unfortunate in the greater scheme of things. Signature and fantastic preamp.

Anyhow, the one constant in life is change. I just recall the last time there was a big gap in the availability of the onboard preamps. Caused me to sell an instrument that I would have otherwise definitely kept. That one still leaves a bad taste in my mouth. But, as I said, can’t live life in the rear view mirror.
