We have the Payson Fanned Flats at www.paysonbass.com designed specifically for the long scale Dingwall’s.
We have the Fanned C singles to go with the set as well in the cart.
Who puts flats on a fretless?
For what it's worth, Sheldon designed Dingwalls for a modern sound, that involves round wounds. You think the Lambourghini of bass should be rocking some white walls? Fuhgeddaboudit. If we ever see Dingwall flats, it is because he acquiesced to demand.
If I put stainless on it I'll be down to the truss rod in no time. I want something that will be more gentle on the FB. NOt to mention I miss the feel of flats and back to what you said. Dingwall basses are designed to have their own sound. With flats it'll be that much more unique.
My Supers sound pretty bitchin with TI flats. P Bass on steroids.

If I still had a longscale, I’d be all over the Payson flats, I really liked the medium light round nickel. Since these are tapered, switching back and forth between flats and rounds would be easy.

My fretless 5 string is a Clement. I use chrome flats on it and it sounds awesome.

The back on that one is wild! I had read in the past that walnut/maple bodies we're standard on Primas, but since Primas have backs I just never noticed it in pictures before seeing this Z3. Totally awesome look, and the dual density concept is really interesting to me.This would make me learn to play a 6-er. No, it isn't mine.

Something about the level of engineering put into Z's specifically just makes them look magical to me, even having never seen one in real life. I can't imagine what it's like to actually get your hands on one!
I used to thing a nice Afterburner II was my "end game" Dingwall dream bass, but since I've been hangung out here and in Steve Gibson's Facebook groups, I think the dream bass has become a Z3.
Though at the rate Sheldon and Company are coming up with new other crazy innovative ideas, who knows what will be the cutting edge in 20-30 years...given the current rate of growth we'll probably be on NG-22 by the time I'm ready for my dream bass order!

Dingwalls of my past.. The SJ4 on the right was the one that started it all for me 9 years ago. Followed 6 years later by the SJ5 in the middle that I bought from Stephen Gibson. Then my first long scale, the ABZ on the left. All are gone now but not forgotten.

DANG! I REALLY like that Blue on the left. Methinks it would look great as a 3x too! Hmmm...Maybe with a Wenge neck... although it certainly looks fine with the Maple.

Let us know where you get to on it. I'm betting that I can make it work live, also this will now be in the mix too. I've never been a compression guy, but we've got a few places I can use it and I think the X/D will also benefit for it. Apparently, I dive into the deep end right off. This is my first 'pedal compressor' although I have a handful of rack units.

Seems like lots of guys like flats. I've never been able to get get along with them. They end up sounding tubby and hollow to me and I have issues with string tension. I know at least one other local Dingwall player who has flats on his standard Combustion.
I really like both those Z's. I don't know why, but I have a fondness for the green/yellow burst thing on Dingwalls and the Z-2 has a lovely quilt. Sorry it didn't grow a 3rd pickup though.
