I understand that completely. My brother is lead guitar in a death metal band out of Memphis and while I am in awe of thier technical ability and I'll always be a supporter, I can't listen to more than a few songs at a time. Just not my bag. I think I only discovered Archspire from this thread when death corpse aviator dropped. Now I've heard about half thier catalog and watched a bunch of interviews and documentaries on them.

Everyone was in such great spirits last night.
Got to hang with the boys a bit… I never ended up meeting Chris from Volvodynia which I was hoping to do.
definitely got some good Dingwall convo in with Jared. His Z is quite a bit lighter then mine… and fvckin deadly.
What a night/day difference from his Kiesels which were also deadly but…. Well… Dingwall… you know.
I would have loved to check that bass out. My Z lust is strong right now. Once I buy another car I may be on the look out for one

Classed up my ab2 a bit last night with some real ebony knobs.
I love the stock Canadian knobs, but I feel these really fit the vibe of the bass.

the skinny super fatties are the most Jazz pick up in the dingwall line. They are designed with increase presence in the lows and highs and still coil split. These were installed as a favourite on the Z line for a while and in the Prima’s but with I believe a bit more modification to the coils/winding for a while before the fat shell platform became “the one” for interchangeability.
aside from the obvious P tone pick up,
The others, and newer options in the fat shells are the FD3,FDV, and SF2.
The SF2 is the same as the original SFs but has even more increased highs and lows.
THE FDV has Alnico 5 magnets and pushes more mid presence. A bit more vintage sound perhaps.
The FD3 has neo magnets and has that very modern balanced sound. This was the most common pick up and is the basis for the production model FD3(n)(?) in the combustions
it seems that most custom Canadian basses now leave the shop with FDV pick ups.
The premise for all pick ups is fundamentally based on a P pick up is what I understand
I have one 4-string Middle FDV pickup for sale (accidentally bought - meant to get a 5), but as I understand it, it is designed for the Super series based on the angle it is installed/spacing.

So on Thursday I was informed that my ABI is in set up. Hopefully I will be having a NDD very shortly.
We're right about 18 months from my initial order date, so I'm guessing the wait was par for the course. I have a mental image of what this bass is going to look like. I haven't seen an in progress picture so it will be cool to see if my mind was on the right track when the bass actually delivers.

nice. I am just crossing my fingers that april is a bit late this year for mine. (Edit: it will be 2-3 months late). So probably in my hands by mid july as it needs to boarder hop twice.

Just picked up my 3rd Dingwall. I bought a 4 string D Roc over the weekend to give my my Combustion 4 and 5 a new friend.
I would like to put a detuner on the D Roc. Does anyone have a suggestion on where to find a smoked chrome detuner that will match the Hipshots that come on it?
Im also thinking about doing the 6 position switch. Is it worth doing? The thing I like about the 6 position is the ability to solo the neck p/up. Just curious if anyone has done it and if it makes a noticeable difference.
