We hooked a left and went West, I found it nice, of course, maybe the Harley helped. And we did visit some parks, glaciers, brewery, etc.

I've thought about this, it's a 15 hour drive from Denver. I don't know if I can just rock up to the factory and ask for my ABZ when it's ready though. As it stands now, looks like I'm paring down the options. The Neve preamp isn't that good, right? Right?!

Now I just need to decide which finish. Maybe go for the same because I really like the look of my basses and 3 times is a charm, or opt for an X-top and a more fancy/adventurous look.

First, thank you for your videos and reviews.

Second, what makes you decide for the SJ5 instead of the NG3. I am curious, I have kind of the same dilema.

As of this morning my order with JFB for an AB1 with wenge neck and Neve preamp just became a stock ABZ with no options for roughly the same price. Really pisses me off, since it was already a big stretch for me to buy a bass this expensive. Then again, my D-Roc (that I had to sell to fund this order) was passive and certainly did not need a preamp to sound like thunder.

I'm currently taking suggestions on how I should spec an ABZ5 for less money. I'm thinking maple neck, wenge fingerboard with the only option being transparent black or transparent blackburst finish. That should look pretty good I think. Basically this:

I really am sorry for everyone with an order in process. It's why I jumped on that used one when it popped up. Just figured it was so close if not beyond what I wanted that I should grab it.

I will say that the good thing is some options like fancy tops, etc. may be nice, but you'll get no less of a bass without it. The most bare bones ABZ or like is gonna still be a stellar bass.

On my custom 6 way switches my first 2 settings are B/M and B/N both in series. I don’t know which I like better as it varies per situation. If I didn’t have the option I would be just fine I’m sure, but I do 🤷🏼‍♂️

It was made for me because of the 25% tariff on all Canadian imports as of midnight on 3/4. This increased the price of my planned build by about $2,000, which was my budget for the goodies like premium neck wood, Neve pre, and fancy paint. It will still be an awesome bass no matter what though, and we could wake up tomorrow and the tariffs are off. So we will wait and see. Luckily I'm not locked into the order until probably Q4 of this year.

I borrowed my friend’s NG for a few weeks during the Christmas holidays and played it a lot.

As much as I like it, i feel more comfortable with the medium scale basses, specially when playing standing up. I’m 1,61m / 5 ft 4 tall, so the 37” scale length feels a bit like a stretch.
Sitting down it is not a big issue.

It’s not that the bass feels uncomfortable ,because I have used it live and it definitely works, but I cannot justify spending more than 4k on a bass that I dont feel 100% comfortable with.

At some point I will probably order a bare bones ABZ or an NG/JT/Nashville bass for recording purposes, though.

The SJ5 should cover the need for the low B, while still providing the Dingwall tone :)

Pretty amazing really how absolutely flat it is out east of Beiseker and I hear you've got a mountain and lake beyond Alsask somewhere which were actually made from each other!

We played in Sibbald for three nights and I'll never forget looking out the second floor windows in all directions the first morning there!
