I'm confused then. What's the problem? In that 6 position switch, couldn't you add small pots that only affect their corresponding settings? Because the dingwall small pot only affects the series setting. Sorry, I'm not really knowledgeable with this stuff.

No problem attenuating the whole combination, problematic if you try to attenuate an individual coil within a series combination.

So, if you have ABC connected in series and want to turn down ABC -- no problem.
If you have ABC connected in series and want to turn down A -- problem.

We're on the same page then. I'd like to turn each corresponding combination's output down a bit, depending on which and how many pickups they use. To repeat your earlier suggestion:

• Neck
• Neck + Middle (with a small pot that lowers this setting's output a bit)
• Middle
• All 3 (with a small pot that lowers this setting's output a bit more)
• Middle + Bridge (with a small pot that lowers this setting's output a bit)
• Kill switch

Decisions, decisions... I'm about to pull the trigger on a new order and join the long agonizing wait that we are all familiar with, BUT I am still deciding on a few final specs as well a color combination.

So far I know this much: Super P with reversible pickup and two pick guards to cater for both positions, 5 strings passive... now the decision is to be made on wood / neck. Sheldon can you hear me??
I am a fan of vintage colors therefore I might go for a nice sea foam green or surf green whichever way you want to call it, but I wouldn't know if to go for Ash or Alder for the body, I like the idea of the new slimline body without tone chambers for weight reduction, in fact I want this bass to be as light as it can possibly get and... I know I don't do rosewood, or any other dark fret boards so it's got to be maple all the way, but I do not want that anemic Ibanezy maple necks, so I would want an aged looking maple one piecer, no laminate sections. I just prefer it to be one piece.

Something like this but... no pick guard, no matching head stock and a less anemic maple board, also I don't know if the picture didn't render the color well but I also find this shade of green to be slightly a bit pale compared to my PRS with similar color combo which I would really want to mimic on this new Dingwall project, so what say you's?

I like the Super P just like it is. Sheldon uses a lot of light when taking his glamor photo, so I suspect neither the color nor the maple board are quite as anemic as they may appear to be in the pic. The PRS is coooool!!

Those original PRS basses had some truly infrasonic lows!
I know there was a famous reggae player who swore by them...

I owned one briefly -- it was cool, but not entirely usable for the music I was playing at the time.

I like the Super P just like it is. Sheldon uses a lot of light when taking his glamor photo, so I suspect neither the color nor the maple board are quite as anemic as they may appear to be in the pic. The PRS is coooool!!

Yes that PRS is my pride and joy a vintage 1986 model all original. Anyway going back to the anemic maple unfortunately I have both an ABZ and a Super J/P with that type of maple andI would have loved it if they were a tad darker, this pics show them in real light, the ABII in the middle has a roasted maple neck, but it's a one off exception that will rarely be repeated by Sheldon & Co.

Yes Robbie Shakespear to name one (Sly & Robby) funny enough I don't do reggae nor dub, I just love the P bass sound that you get from the middle pickup and the quasy stingray that you get by playing the two middle and bridge, the neck pickup played on it's own is when you get that reggae sub lows or the Gibson EB simulator as I call it

The ABZ is a mids machine. The bridge can get as Jaco as any J-bass, and you can get some really fat low-mid punch with the pickups in series.

That's great to hear I like my mids and am working on getting an ABZ 3X to bookend my AB1. I just saw Dingwall's description on swamp ash on the site and wanted to check.

Sheldon says that compared to the thin rubbed finish on the ABZ, the thick gloss finish on the AB1 and II's makes a bigger difference than changing the fingerboard wood. There's a whole lot of stuff going on to produce the prominent mids on the ABZ, not just the body wood.

Whether I like a clean white piece of maple, depends on the grain structure.

I don't like the ghostly white colour of the neck on a typical late-model MIM or Am Std Fender. On those, I prefer to see a vintage tint.

But I love the look of a nicely-flecked premium piece of rock maple under oil or a clear gloss finish. To my eye it looks great against darker painted finishes, or natural walnut or ash (like the ABZ in your photo).

If I had any regrets about the way I ordered my ABZ, it would be that I didn't take a chance on the natural ash finish, instead of going with Honey Amberburst. Regardless, I haven't seen a Dingwall with a maple board that I didn't like...

The C thin neck profile is kills for comfort and just so easy to play. Tone shaping is endless between the Glock pre, series/parallel switches and rotary control. Sounds unreal even in passive mode with the use of the passive treble control and s/p switches. Hope it's everything you imagine it to be."
