Hey guys can you tell me the default pickups on a Z3? The ones that are the skinny ones or the ones that are the fat ones as in Bearfists pictures?

I was told that Dingwall moved onto the fat ones and it was a move for the better.

I think the fd3(fat) pickups are the norm right now but that said the super fatty(skinny) pick ups aren't a bad thing. It's not about Better or worse I think as its more so about tonal preference. I've got both kinds of pick ups on different guitars and can safely say I have an fd preference due to my style and such but the SFs are awesome sounding pups. If you want to have more aggression go with Fds. For a bit less abrasive sound do with the sfs.

Thank you for the info. Someone said the same thing as you. It's just different. I think the Le Sklar model still comes with the Super Fatty. So it's like what you mentioned, just tonally different.

Hey everyone, I just sold my Combustion fiver as I decided I really do not need a low B, drop D is enough for me. I want to keep a Dingwall in the stable as the Combustion really impressed me, and am considering a new Super P/J that is available, swamp ash body. Unfortunately I will not be able to try it first. It has a wenge fingerboard and neck with which I have had little experience. Many, many years ago I had a Warwick Dolphin Pro 2 with a wenge fretboard and it never really worked for me, although that may have had nothing to do with the wenge. Can anyone give me some feedback on Dingwall wenge/wenge necks re playability/feel/tone?

Wenge/wenge I would call more non traditional in sound (not fenderish), with a swamp ash body it sounds more lower mid bark. The highs are kinda "ringy" or clackity depending on pramp eq. I love it, burp snarl grind, whatever you want to call it. There is some natural seperation of highs mids and lows as opposed to a high or low, or sonic soup that maple/maple and maple/ rosewood give.

In fact, I have two z3,same pickups and preamp. Only difference is one has maple neck/wenge fingerboard and the other is wenge/wenge. I love the wenge/wenge more-something about the seperation and ability to space out frequencies-my ear finds more pleasing. And I think I'm gonna sell the maple/wenge z3

Oh yeah.. that is a great price!!! Better than what I gave for mine and I have two of the exact same one! They are Levys
