hey, gang--
wanted to thank y'all for the helpful info as i was pondering the purchase of a used super J--the oly white/morado board one on reverb. it landed here yesterday, so i've been doing the n.b.d. drill of wiping it down with gerlitz smudge-off, oiling the board, and replacing the batts. (gonna fit it with a detuner key on the e string, when the part arrives.) i can put up a pic, if you like. afaik, it was built in 2005. a cool oldie, played a lot but cared for well, with the finish wearing thin on the neck. i'm happy to have added it to my stable and look forward to adding my own mojo to it.
had another question along the way. the pre is wired for 18 v. can i run it on 9 v, with only one batt? i vaguely remember something about that, in my internet ramblings. the reason i'm asking is that i use the keith macmillan batt-o-meter to check my active basses before i take them to a gig, and it only works on 9 v systems.
actually, thought of another question. a super P of recent build was my gateway dingwall, and the neck finish appears to be different. the super P seems to be poly, but this vintage super J feels more like satin nitro, especially the way it's wearing thin on the neck. i might be wrong, though--anybody got something on that?
