So you're saying that you don't understand it.......

:rollno:

How much of your monthly fee do you think goes to Sprint for the use of their network?

Facebook? Are you on facebook?

hahahahahaha...you do realize that Facebook is probably the most formidable marketing scheme for corporations in existence today? Every time you log on you are supporting dozens and hundreds of corporations as they bombard you with advertisements.

Good show!

I appreciate the article. I'm happy to say I've done all of TB, myself, and my family a favor by taking your advice and reading it.

Here is how I feel about the subject. I am responsible for my family and our well being. Banks do not control my life, my actions, or my level of success. I do.

The Government also does not effect my level of success. At times it threatens to. If I ever come to believe that my ability to succeed based solely off my own efforts becomes impossible here in the US, I will move my family somewhere that rewards my efforts.

I believe in personal responsibility. I doubt that the majority of OWS "protestors" would agree.

This is all I need to know that the man not only controls you, he has a ring in your nose to make you follow him anywhere he wants to take you. This is from a man who has worked for almost fifty years.

It's sad that you think this way. It's sad that you're near the end of your life and you think you don't have any control over your own destiny.

Smart people learn that they can't control the system, so they simply exploit it for their own needs. Work the system and it doesn't work you.

This is the problem. Putting all of the blame on them is laughable.
The TRUE "Occupy Wall-Street" protester would be in his room, changing his ways and his children's ways, and saving his money and spending it locally. That's how your protest a Corporation.

Let me correct myself, personally. I am not hostile toward one political agenda. I am hostile toward ignorance and intentional blindness. I am also hostile towards greed - which transcends any demographic and political boundaries.

Wall Street lobbied to for its own deregulation. They got it. Then they gambled our 401ks and mortgages and lost. That, in a nutshell, is how we got from the good times of 2006 to where we are now.

I'm sure the criticisms you have of American consumerism are interesting, but they are not the reason why the economy tanked. They just aren't.

It seems to me that what you are hostile toward is anyone, anywhere who might be getting something undeservedly. Somewhere there's a person on disability who maybe doesn't strictly need it. Somewhere there's a fat kid getting a discounted school lunch. Somewhere there's an OWS protester who majored in ethnomusicology and thinks she's too smart to work in retail.

Well, maybe there is. But I don't let it stop me from doing what is right--from providing disability insurance and discounted lunches. And it doesn't stop me from realizing that the OWS protesters are, by and large, right. Wall Street really IS responsible for what happened and they ARE being unbelievably callous and unfair in resisting re-regulation and in demanding further tax cuts.

The American people are only responsible for this economic downturn in the sense that they voted for the numbskulls who deregulated Wall Street and put the whole thing in motion.

The whole reason why banks are looking to make up revenue is because the new reform laws are costing them money and as is the case with ANY capitalist system, the cost is passed on to the consumer.

I'm old enouth to remember when banks told us that debit cards were going to save the banks money and the savings were going to be passed along to the customer. You sir, have been taken in. Banks were going to raise fees for one reason and one reason only: they are greedy pigs who think they can get away with anything.

@John D - You do know that there are Immigration laws which prevent people from living and working anywhere in the world we might choose? Try moving to Europe. If you show up at Customs and tell officials there that you are arriving to look for a job they will send you immediately back to the United States. This is the reality of Capitalism. We are not so free.

Firstly, as I stated earlier in the thread - my political ideology bends toward Libertarian Socialism. So your belief about me being critical of "people who get something undeservedly" is false.

As for your understanding of economics, you have not the grasp that this trend has been happening for much longer than 5 years. The economic issues we face today have been a long time coming...since probably the days of Eisenhower. Suburbanization was the first great step towards our present state.

You're right, it's not only been American consumerism but also the culture of materialism. The American culture of the past 3 generations has been the leading factor of the issues we face today.

In reference to demographics, more occupy protestors have jobs than Tea Party protestors. Occupy protestors unemployment rate is slightly higher than national average--around 15%.

The notion that these people are ONLY camping out and twiddling their thumbs is nonsense. They're planning political action within their locals while going to work and otherwise living their lives.

These numbers only work when you ignore the fact that over 1/3 of the TPM are retired.

And dude, the (extremely liberal) mayor of St. Louis has even had enough. It's cool though. Winter sucks here and these people will be back at mommy's before you know it. ;)

"Wall Street" isn't responsible. Greed, on all levels, is responsible. From the homeowner who actually believed that their home was appreciating at 20% a year (and borrowed against it), to the CEO who made billions. Guess what? That CEO wouldn't make billions if you and your friends hadn't been greedy in the first place.

You haven't found the responsible party. You've found a target for your misguided anger.

Does anyone have any opinions of how OWS can redirect it's momentum before it quite literally freezes to death over the next few weeks? I support the cause, but the gesture of making a spectacle seems to have run it's course and the media's portrayal of it is now attracting hostility from those who would otherwise support it. I really have no clue myself what would be a productive next step, hopefully that is the type of talking, planning, and action being taken at the campsites now.

I can't wait for practice tomorrow so I can tell the harmonica player he's playing the historic instrument of the underclass.

But wait!?! Why aren't they handing out basses? I demand a suitable instrument. In this country, with our technology, why should the common man have to play harmonica? I want a living instrument. I want the historic instrument of The Man.

Europe is not a country. Europe does not have a customs. Belgium, France, the UK, Austria, etc. have customs.

And if you have the skills that they want, they'll keep you. This is the same everywhere. You have to have a skill.

Oh, well that changes everything.

You know, this is why we can't have nice things here in America. This.

Because when our wealthy oligarchs F up the entire economy, have us bail them out with our tax money, refuse re-regulation to prevent them from doing it again in the future, then demand more tax breaks on top of the ones they've been getting for decades...all we proletariat do is squabble amongst each other. We point fingers. YOU don't deserve unemployment insurance. YOU should have majored in engineering. YOU should have worked harder. YOU should keep quiet and take what you get because you haven't made every single correct decision in your life and therefore have no one to blame but yourself.

And those responsible for the mess walk off while we argue. The end.

Nice to have someone to blame, isn't it? It makes us feel better about our position in life, doesn't it?

Here's a hint: there will always be some richer or more powerful than you. Learn to live within that system, because it never changes.

It needs to be organized. This "free-love", "everyone's invited" attitude brings all the druggies, rapists, and vandals to a place where they otherwise would not have gone.

The OWS has unwittingly accepted it's demise in this way. I don't believe OWS has as many of those dirtbags as it seems; it seems to be the metropolitan riff-raff gets attracted to those places.
