"Wall Street" isn't responsible. Greed, on all levels, is responsible. From the homeowner who actually believed that their home was appreciating at 20% a year (and borrowed against it), to the CEO who made billions. Guess what? That CEO wouldn't make billions if you and your friends hadn't been greedy in the first place.

You haven't found the responsible party. You've found a target for your misguided anger.
And let us not forget the politicians.

You want to be angry? Here.

By all means show us the correct numbers then.

I will have to go find the sources. I didn't memorize the details.

However, I have on hand something quite interesting.

Date established Salary Salary in 2009

September 24, 1789 $25,000 $566,000
March 3, 1873 $50,000 $865,000
March 4, 1909 $75,000 $1,714,000
January 19, 1949 $100,000 $906,000
January 20, 1969 $200,000 $1,175,000
January 20, 2001 $400,000 $487,000
Sources:[44][45][46]

This is a chart of the salaries of Presidents in history. Can you tell me what it shows?

Dude, I just did some of your research for you. The salary of senators number was correct. The president's salry is correct when you figure in the expense account.

The numbers are correct. You say they aren't? Prove it. A cursory google search is all it takes.

Nice to have someone to blame, isn't it? It makes us feel better about our position in life, doesn't it?

Seems to me you have people to blame, too. The difference is, well, reality. Hippies in the park with drums didn't crash the economy. Wall Street bankers did.

Here's a hint: there will always be some richer or more powerful than you. Learn to live within that system, because it never changes.

Stop the nonsense. Nobody here is saying we all have to live like Communists and you know it. I'm all about being wealthy. Most Americans hold the rich in pretty high regard. I'd like to be rich. And if I achieved that goal, I wouldn't feel a bit bad about it. There's no shame in winning. But we're not talking about winning. We're talking about cheating. It wasn't hard work and moral fortitude that determined who got bailed out and who didn't. Most people seem to realize that. Why don't you?

Those CEOs make billions because the don't pay any taxes and get subsidies to boot! How on earth is that the fault of the 99%

You might want to do deeper research. This seems to be a problem with viral information and propaganda.

Presidents DO NOT get paid $450k for life. When they retire from Presidency, they receive roughly $200k a year.

I don't know the stats for the rest of the House/Senate members, but I assume with a quick search I could find a similar method. I can easily assume though that they do not make salary for life the same they did in office.

Alas, you did not answer my question?

Your reality is warped. Wall Street doesn't make money out of thin air. Consumers buy the products that Wall Street sells. Wall Street is a pile of trash but who were the people who let the pile of trash grow in their yard?

The Consumers.

Europe is not a country. Europe does not have a customs. Belgium, France, the UK, Austria, etc. have customs.

And if you have the skills that they want, they'll keep you. This is the same everywhere. You have to have a skill.
Thank you for the geography lesson. I meant to say any European country. And you are correct about skilled workers. But what about most workers who didn't have the time or money to get a higher education? What are they supposed to do?

And let us not forget the politicians.

I'm not going to get involved, I'm not going to get involved...sigh...:(

The CEO of GE makes about $10 million/year in total compensation, GE's gross sales are something like $75 billion/year. (And the CEO of GE is underpaid compared to CEOs for companies with much smaller yearly sales.)

The US President makes $400K/year and heads an organization with a yearly budget of about $2.6 Trillion dollars.

So, using the corporate number for GE to "properly" scale the salary for the President gives a presidential salary that should be about $350 Million/year. That would be an 875 times salary increase for the President.

And that doesn't even take into account the other compensation that the CEO of GE gets that doesn't show up in his salary.

While politicians *may* cause alot of problems within our system, they really are not the money holders in the USA, and going after their salaries would not do much good.

I feel bad for adding to this mess. :atoz:

Why shouldn't we fight this unfair system? Are you saying there have been no successful Revolutions in human history? There have been and there is one going on now. Read Karl Marx.

My grandfather was skilled in the creation of metal furniture and metal windows. Did he get educated?

Nope. He worked hard.

The people who can't get a higher education (and that includes the people who can't afford it who somehow believe getting into $60k of debt is intelligent for a degree in Psychology) should use their skills of intelligence, strength, endurance, and a good attitude.

You are correct.

And I did not answer your question because you are trying to goad me into a political discussion. I don't care when the salary increased. You may note that it has not been subsequently returned to previous levels. That photo also fails to point out the lifetime cadillac health care deal they get. Nor did it point out the fact that while the rest of the country was in recession, politicians voted themselves a pay raise. VOTED THEMSELVES A PAY RAISE. I wish I could do that.
