Wow indeed. My initial impression after installing the stainless steel 5-string set on my Sterling HH is that I'm getting all of the definition I like in broken-in SS strings without all of the annoying artifacts. I typically struggle with the brightness of SS sets, but these seem to be very balanced after a couple of hours of messing around with them. Nothing about them annoys me... which is a new experience in SS strings for me. The finger noise is not excessive, and I didn't have to dial back my high end eq or attenuate my tweeter to make them sound warm enough to suit me. They kinda sound like nickel strings, although obviously the output is not quite as hot in the midrange.
It will be interesting to see what happens as they break in. I'm hoping that they become a bit more punchy, rather than a lot less zingy.
They also have a really nice feel for SS... not nearly as grabby as a new set of SS LowRiders to me. The tension is significantly less than LowRiders, but tight enough that it's not bothering me. And I'm finding that when I go for a popped note these suckers really deliver... glassy and punchy at the same time.
If they don't disappoint after another 20 hours, I may be a convert....
