Fender Rumble LT25, Studio 40 & Stage 800

.
Attention: Rumble Club Wiki Edit Alert!

Thank you, @rtslinger, for sharing that news article in your "Finally" thread. I'm very glad I found it. rt, that article has been linked at the bottom of the new Rumble 800 COMBO sub-section on your Rumble Club Wiki page. This is great news that Fender is still innovating its great Rumble line!

Thanks again, rt, for sharing with our great TB community. I'm still having trouble finding a Fender announcement or any articles from the industry press about this great new amp! When I search for "Fender Rumble 800 COMBO" all I get are links to the Rumble Stage 800!!! :bored:

Attention: Rumble Club Wiki Edit Alert!

Thank you, @agedhorse, for your review and input to my new wiki page, FX Return Jack Fix for Sound & Static Problems. I have linked this new wiki on the Rumble Club Wiki page near the bottom of the Rumble Talks section, right under a link to another description of this problem. This is, hopefully, a very basic description of the problems and fixes that will help others in that situation.

Thanks, Andy, for your contributions.

The Studio 40 only has 3 physical EQ knobs (Low, Middle and High), but the Rumble v3 preset has four soft EQ knobs with the original frequency assignments. I no longer have my original 200 or 40 to test against (120 VAC only; sold when I left the States), but I suspect that the Studio 40 using the Rumble v3 preset with the soft EQ knobs set to 10-2-2-10 would sound a LOT like the original 40 set the same way.

You’d think so, but I for one have been unable to reproduce the sound of the Rumble 40 faithfully using the Rumble v3 preset on my Studio 40 with the same EQ settings.

Jakob, could you elaborate, please? How does the sound differ? I assume you turn off the horn, since the R40 doesn't have one. Perhaps there are some RS40 "deep settings" involved? I dunno. o_O

Interestingly, the Rumble 40 sounded fuller than the Studio 40. The settings were as similar as I could make them, and the tweeter on my Studio 40 is permanently turned off. :)

I concluded that the Studio 40 is a different animal altogether, and/or that the Rumble v3 preset isn’t all that accurate.

Not to beat a dead horse (but, at least this is the correct thread for it ;)) did you use the #8 Clean Focus preset? It's got Gain set at 4.0 (or about 10:30ish). And the Volume being set at 6.7 might be a little low to get a good tone, too, according to more than one Rumbler.

And the EQs are set at Bass at 6.8 (or ~1), LoMid at 5.5 (or 12), HiMid at 6.3 (or ~12:40), and Treble at 5.4 (or ~12). I think the digital equivalent of the actual flat B, LM, HM, T of 10, 2, 2, 10 would be approximately 3.5, 7.5, 7.5, 3.5. Oh, and that 410 Pro cab surely needs to be changed to the 1x10 Rumble V3 like the Rumble 40! But I dunno what to do about those Compressor, Gate and Gate Position settings. Can they be turned off, or set to None?

Please feel free to check my reading of @Droopy_TX's preset doc below and the translation to/from Clock Knob Reading. Along with getting Ol' Timers, I think I'm getting dyslexic (sp?), too!

I’m not sure whether this was addressed to me or @Deleted member 268085, but my settings were admittedly as simple as possible. Rumble v3 preset, soft EQ controls set to match the controls on the Rumble 40, no cab sim, as I figured the cabs and drivers were close enough. After getting a slightly underwhelming result I went back to my original settings on the Studio 40 and thought no more about it. Having it sound the same as the Rumble 40 wasn’t really that important in the first place, I was just wondering how close the Rumble v3 got to the real thing. Not very, as it turned out.

Thanks. And thanks for moving my original post on the topic to this thread. A Rumble is a Rumble, except when it's a modelling Rumble.:bassist:

O I C, Jake. Sounds like, instead of using an existing preset, that you made a fresh ... uh, ... newset(?) with nothing but the Rumble V3 amp model and controls adjusted to taste. I get it. I can buy that. As always, you are quite reasonable. Surprising result, though!

Yeah, Maarti, I sure didn't wanna post all those knob settings and Droopy's preset chart in the main Rumble Club thread and have 'em axing me, "What's all dat aboot?" :smug:

I see what you mean - I’ve always thought of it as the Rumble v3 preset, but of course it is in fact an amp model, so it’s a misnomer on my part. Sorry for the confusion. :)

Still, one would expect the Rumble v3 amp model of the Studio 40 to sound about the same as the Rumble 40 if they’re EQ’ed about the same as well. Of course, I did this a while ago, so my memory of it might not be perfect. I don’t have my Rumble 40 available to make a new head-to-head, or rather a combo-to-combo, comparison (see what I did there? :)).

What I could do when I have a moment, though, is to compare it to my Rumble 500 by adding a 210 cab sim, and see how it works out.

UPDATE: Did a quick test against the 500, and the Rumble v3 amp model fared better than I remembered. The base tone was there, but the 500 had substantially more low end and «pillowiness» to the sound. However, that may be due to cab differences.

Thanks for checking, my man! Very cool of you to revisit this for us here. Especially since getting a more expected result!

Hmmm, ... 《pillowiness》, eh? I don’t find that listed in the TB Bass Tone Glossary., surprisingly enough. :roflmao: But that hasn't been updated in 7 years. I think I get the general idea of a soft sounding, but firm feeling tone. Is that anything like what you intended? I think I could add it to the Glossary, if you agree. ;)

That’s more or less what I mean. I was trying to convey something akin to the opposite of «glassy». A firm, pleasant tone that was clear but soft, rather than brittle or harsh. By all means add it to the glossary, if you think it’s relevant.

Attention: Rumble Club Wiki Edit Alert!

Well, I finally found a news article, although it's admittedly a lot like the first one. This article has been linked at the bottom of the new Rumble 800 COMBO sub-section on your Rumble Club Wiki page. This is still great news that Fender is continuing to innovate within its great Rumble line!

I'll continue looking for more Fender announcements or any other articles from the industry press about this great new amp! When I search for "Fender Rumble 800 COMBO" I continue to get mostly links to the Rumble Stage 800! Thanks, 7ender, for the confusing model names. :bored:

For some reason unlike some other Fender amps any [LT25] presets you make or save can't be shared on their website.
However, I don't know if each preset you creates a file, so I don't see what stops people sharing them, or people (myself included) could just write down our presets and share what we did?

Does anyone know where the folder the files my computer creates when I make a new [LT25] preset is?

Ajuk, I apologize for not addressing this sooner. Thanks for being persistent, and patient. BTW, this bass modeling sub-thread of The Club is the correct place for these discussions.

Do the instructions work that @JakobT linked for you? @JAC70's Rumble LT25 Presets Decoder

Hmmm, the LT25 manual says nothing about using the Tone App Desktop software! And I find precious little else about it, other than downloading and installing, at the @JAC70's Rumble LT25 Presets Decoder.

Of course, it's possible, as the webpages seem to say, that the Desktop Tone App is truly just an interface to the amp and doesn't actually save the presets, files or otherwise, to the desktop computer itself. Any Rumble LT25 users here that have found differently?

Have you tried using Invalid Link Removed to document your newly created presets manually?

Ajuk, you might call Fender Customer Service and ask them your questions? Or at least an email? Please let us know what you hear back.

For a while now I’ve been using my Sansamp VT 21 through my Stage 800, I know it’s a waste of not using the Rumble’s features and effects but it does sound very good!

I’ve been plugging the VT into the FX Return socket on the back of the 800 (thereby by-passing the combo’s pre-amp), and an XLR cable from the 800 out to the mixing desk.

A couple of questions;

1. I’m assuming it doesn’t matter whether I use the XLR Pre or Post Out Sockets as I’m not using the Stage 800’s pre-amp?

2. Would it make any difference if I used the Sansamp’s XLR direct to the desk instead of the Stage 800’s XLR Socket?

Hmmm, ... we-e-e-elll, ...

A. This sub-thread is the place for such Rumble bass modeling discussions, Bake. ;)

1. Looking at the block diagram for the Rumble 800 HD head for comparison (not to be confused with your Rumble Stage 800), the signal for the Pre XLR Out comes from just inside the Instrument input. I don’t know how, or even if, your Sansamp signal could, or would, ever get "upstream" to that point from an FX Return jack. If it does work, it might "color" the sound a bit. Have you tried it?

2. It could possibly make quite a difference. Again, assuming a similar block diagram to the R800HD, you might conceivably get whatever cab sim your Stage's current preset has configured! You'd just have to check with different presets and see.
.

I’ve only ever tried it using the Post EQ XLR but I will give the Pre EQ output a try.

I thought that using the FX Return on the Stage 800 totally bypassed its Preamp stage and what I’m getting is purely an amplified signal of the Sansamp VT 21? Having played directly through the Stage 800 the sound I’m getting is definitely the Sansamp, but as you say whether it is being slightly coloured when going through the FX Return socket I don’t know.

The Stage 800 is set to a Preset which doesn’t have a Cab selected.

I played a gig on Saturday evening, we had already set up & sound-checked and the band members and wives were sitting in the venue having a chat and a drink before it was time for us to start the show.

I called up a new song on my phone on YouTube (which the band was intending on learning) for the wife to listen to and I had forgotten that the Bluetooth on my Stage 800 was switched on, and the song started playing through it!

It was slightly embarrassing as the song was coming through loud and clear on my combo, but at the same time I was surprised that the 2 devices connected as we were seated about 50 feet away.

Probably me, but I'm poring over the 800 HD block diagram, but can't find "Pre XLR Out", only "Line Out" with XLR connection symbol. I have a related question once I find what you're pointing to.

Edit:

I do find this, and see "Pre" pole, but I don't trace that to an output port, it goes to "Speaker Cab Sym":
