Fender Rumble LT25, Studio 40 & Stage 800

Couple of odd questions...

Does anyone here use their Rumble Studio for electric guitar? If so, how is it?

Also can you download tones for electric guitar (like the ones you can download for the GT and GTX series of guitar amps) and put them into the Rumble Studio?

Basically I'm trying to see if I can replace my GT40 with my Studio 40 as there is a lot of overlap in features, in fact the Studio 40 has more features especially when it comes to line outs and FX send/return options.

I use a few of my bass amps for guitar, including my Studio 40. I find they give a fuller, richer tone for both strumming and picking. If it's a casual, non-public jam, I'll just take one of my bass amps for both, usually the Studio. At one such private jam another guy brought just his Strat and a V1 Rumble 25 and, man!, his blues leads were so sweet they could make you cry! I highly recommend bass amps for guitar, though they may not get as jangly/trebly as you may want for some songs/genres, or in some gigs/venues.

Funny you should ask, 3, but Rumbler #1185, @Dookieshoes has posted downloading GT presets to his Stage 800, with elaboration and pictures here. Hope this helps. :)

Oops! The Dook said this doesn't work anymore! RATS! But, it might be worth a try anyway, just in case it has started up again. :bored:

.We-e-e-ell, "replacement" is in the ear of the beholder. Depending on your purposes, it could certainly work for you, ... or not. Personal practice, casual small jams, maybe even some recording with the extra connections it could be great! Some certain songs, or gigs, your GT might be better suited. It's really for you to decide.

I find my modeling amps, both bass and guitar, are great replacements for lots of various hardware pedals. The Studio, in particular, has several very versatile effects for stomp pedals. I've been seriously considering the Fender EXP-1 Expression Pedal to use for volume swell and wah sounds.

Speaking of decisions, slash, when are you going to decide to go to the main Fender Rumble Club thread and just mention your Rumble Studio to get a free club membership? We'd love to have you join. :smug:

I did some testing with the tip that @Gsnorgathon gave regarding the built-in pitch shifters. For simple capo-type transposition, the proper effect is the Chromatic Pitch Shifter. The Diatonic Pitch Shifter creates note offsets based on the song's key and the chosen interval. This is more for creating harmonies than simple transposition.

Using the amp's front panel, the Chromatic Pitch Shifter effect is located in the FILTERS+SHIFT group, and called PITCH SHIFTER. Once you've added it, it's called CHROM PITCH.

Here's an illustration of the parameters:

It works pretty well. Certainly good enough for live performance. I am going to make a couple generic tone presets with the effect set for Eb and Drop D tunings. This will cover my needs in case I ever have any problems with my HX Stomp. (Also, perfect for any impromptu jams with those SRV aficionados that just HAVE to tune down like Stevie did.)

Thanks for the tip, Gsnorg.

Attention: Rumble Club Wiki Edit Alert!

Thank you, @Droopy_TX, for sharing that info! Droo, your explanation of the Pitch Shifter effect on the Stage & Studio amps to detune, or drop tune, has been linked on the Rumble Club Wiki page near the middle of the Tone App Support section, at the end of the Droopy_TX Preset Experience sub-section. This is a terrific example of helping each other get the most put of these super-versatile bass modeling amps.

Thanks, Droo, for your sharing, and you too, @Gsnorgathon, for first confirming that this effect can do this job.

-100 gets you a half step. (The units are cents, where 1 cent is 1/100 of a half step.)

Can't recall or seem to find how to create a model that is detuned to Eb. I did this on my Studio 40 (which is at our rehearsal space) but can't figure it out on my Stage 800. Can anyone help? Thanks.

Use a pitch shifter with the mix set to 100% shifted.

There's a few collected posts to jog your memory, @RL5. Hope this helps.

Played at an Open Mic Band Jam last night with a couple of my band mates and a sit-in drummer. Studio 40 was more than up to the task and sounded great in a place larger than our rehearsal space. Only played 7 songs, since the drummer wasn't familiar with a lot of our stuff, but it was a fun evening.
@RL5 Just noticed your Fullerton Deluxe JB. I have an F. D. Fallout. Love it, especially the MFD pup. Been playing short scales since I damaged my left shoulder falling on ice.

How does yours play?

Love my G&L JB. It's the first really nice (by my standards) bass I've owned. Was looking at Fender American Jazz basses, but after research, decided to get the G&L. Bought it used from someone on TB. Got what I was looking for at a price I was willing to pay. It plays and sounds great, IMHO. It had a nice set up when I received it (good, low action with no buzz), but I do want to have a new set of strings put on it and have everything gone over again. It had lived in TX, and the climate is much different here in CO. Since it has had a few months to settle in to the new environment, I think it would be best to have it gone over again.

Hey, y’all. Question here.

Using a Rumble Stage 800 w/ the 4 button switch.

Do we know where the looper is in the chain and if we can move it?

Basically I’d like to record a loop and then apply external effects in the effects loop to the recorded loop. I find this the best way to tweak settings.

Maybe I’m doing something wrong, but I tried using both the pre and post fx loops, but it seemed like the recorded loop was not affected.

Thanks!

Hmmm, ... Good question, Swampy! I don't really know,, but your post indicates that the Footswitch Looper is located downstream of the FX Return jacks, and is not movable or "tweak-able" with external effects.

If that is truly the case, perhaps your question becomes "What's the most efficient method for tweaking effects within the looper?" The first method that occurs to me is to start with the preset you think is closest to what you want, using internal effects, then save it to another preset number for tweaking again. Then, save that tweaked preset to yet another preset number for further tweaking. Repeat as necessary to get what you want.

Anyone else have any ideas?

Hey, @Swamptractor, go mention your Rumble in the main Rumble Club thread for a free membership.

Cheers All.

After a lot of research I was all set to buy a Rumble 40 Studio and footswitch. But today I discovered that the Windows Desktop version of the Fender Tone app doesn't work with Rumble 40 Studio.

Is my understanding correct...?

If so, it's a bummer. I much prefer crafting on the keyboard and screen of a PC, instead of futzing around in an app.

If I can't edit tones on a PC I think I may go back to my original plan of buying a Rumble 40 and a Zoom B6 multi-effects pedal.

Appy, the Fender Tone App for the Rumble Studio 40 and the Rumble Stage 800 is writen for Android or Apple phones or tablets. But, you can connect a bluetooth keyboard and try to have at it. :roflmao: However, since it is designed for touchscreens (and not for keyboards), you'll only be slowing yourself down as there's precious little for a keyboard to do in the app.

I, too, prefer keyboarding most computer work, eschewing the mouse and preferring the much faster keyboard shortcuts and my non-trivial typing skills. But, the graphical simulation of adjusting amp knobs and sequential placement of stomp boxes really is much more intuitive, and faster, by touchscreen. Trust me. It's worth it.

I like carrying a small phone and also hate fxxxing* around on a small touchscreen in apps with lots of options. But, my 10" tablet makes it a snap for my old eyes to see everything and my big old fingers to easily adjust the virtual knobs! It's almost too big, with plenty room onscreen between the various graphic entities.

But, if you absolutely insist on using a PC keyboard, then you could try the Rumble LT25, which uses only the PC (or Mac) version of the Fender Tone App.. But, it has many fewer output connections, stereo USB only, than the Studio or Stage, which have stereo USB, stereo XLR Outs and stereo FX Sends. Also fewer models and fewer spaces for saving new amp/cab/effects combinations. But same great tone!

*fxxxing = fooling. :smug:

Thanks G-Dog. I'll check out the LT25 and give some thought to whether a tablet might make the Studio 40's app more tolerable. Cheers!
Tablets make a huge difference with the Tone App. I'm not a big fan of Fender's software, I wish they just copied Boss and made a proper Windows app with proper USB support. The extra screen space is really helpful, as everything is visual and touch operated. So adjusting knobs is physically easier, and the layout just makes more sense.

I'm not saying go buy a tablet to use your amp, but if you have a use case for a tablet (or already own one) using one with these amps is almost required. At least with the Studio 40.

My Nexus 10 tablet (loved it) died, and I never replaced it. You're right that buying a tablet just to run the Tone app isn't enough reason. The app does what it does on my S10+ phone.
