Genz Benz Shuttle 9.0 discussion thread

Yeah, I really wish I was using the Berg for my gig this weekend, but I'm flying to an island for my show and really don't want to pay for 85 extra pounds of baggage. I'm borrowing a cab from someone there, but the Shuttle is definitely coming with me.

Next weekend: loud drummer, big stage, tonal bliss! :bassist:

Got my Shuttle 9.0 a few minutes ago from FedEx, dropped off here at work. Curious to try it out when I get home, but wondering why it's not sitting level. There appears not to be any way to adjust the feet either.

Seems to be an "issue" with some of the 9.0's from what I've read on the forums thus far. I don't think it's that big of a deal personally tho

Well, mine's already going back to TPB for a replacement. (TPB is great BTW, always enjoy dealing with them.) The problem with a wobbling amp head isn't so much the irritation when pushing/turning knobs but the vibration when playing. And Genz-Benz is supposed to be a top of the line amp so it's not too much to ask that a brand new head sit level on the cabinet.

At least give the amp a workout first! :) You may want to purchase larger rubber feet anyway to minimize vibration. We're talking about 4 little stick on bits of rubber!

+1 If you're playing on a coated cab like the AE410, the amp will probably vibrate around anyways, mine does at louder levels. I don't think it would even be an issue with a carpeted cab. Interestingly though, my 9.0 sits perfectly flat on the ae410. Have you guys tried placing it on various 'level' surfaces? Because my 9.0 will seem uneven on my counter top, and kitchen floor, but different sides will wobble, which tells me my 'level' surfaces are not actually all that level, my amp is perfectly level. It's level on the ae410 and various other surfaces as well.

I had the same issue, it didn't sit flat on any surface. I don't think its down to the customer to use objects to make sure it's sitting even, eg different feet or paper.

You buy a new amp, it's not cheap, you expect it to be nigh on perfect. My cheaper markbass lm3 doesn't have this issue.

I suggest sending it back. The only other thing I've bought that didnt sit flat was a cheap peavey cab that I sold on a few years back.

No offence to genz, they have good customer service, but the rocking issue needs sorting. Seems a few might have it.

well I just fired mine thru a 2 hour rehearsal last night thru my Epifanl ul210 , it is a 8 ohm cabinet so I was using the 500 watts and the other players really liked it , drummer said he could really hear my notes much more clearly , ( I already knew it sounded great ) then I added my 8 ohm Bergintino 210 to the Epifani , now I have a 410 cab of sorts at 4 ohm's , im impressed , I had already tried all the combo's alone in my room but with the band it just sounds great to me , nice clear punchy notes , great open string tone , the 410 combo sounds amazing ( the mix of 2 great cab builder's ) also thru in my Epifani ul 115 to the Epifani 210 , another great rig combo , I used my 67 fender jazz bass passive at first then with my all powerful Sadowsky outboard pre amp , both were very nice , then thru the Sadowsky 5 in there , so far all the basses sound great , gig's coming in a week so another report to come , so far so good , to my ears it is as ive said , just what I like to hear , bass tone that is clear , punchy , tight bass , not muddy is the main thing for me , im loving what this is doing .

I took a peek under the hood today. I'm not sure what power module it is, but it is definitely bigger than the 6.0's. The 6.0's power module board is about 2/3's or 3/4's the size of the 9.0's. From what I can see, the 2 main Capacitor's are a good deal larger as well. Most of the 9.0's power board is under a black plastic 'c' cover with a 'patent pending' sticker on it held down by 4 screws. I'm not removing the screws. The cover seems to serve as an air channel/duct which leads to the side fan.

hmmmmm the plastic C gave it away....

The Genz amps are powered by Bang & Olufsen's new ASX2 series of integrated output board / power supply boards (thier latest & greatest according the press release :p)

The 6.0's use the model 125ASX2, conservatively rated at 550 watts. From your description, you're looking at the 250ASX2.. rated at 640 watts down to minimum 8 ohms. I'm thinking this is where GB's PHAT topology comes in... some propriety something or other that allows that board to operate down to 4 ohms, thus the 900 watt rating. I bet its a beast. Here she is:

Sooooo based on the somewhat established schedule..... I think we can expect the Shuttlemax 9.0 to be announced right around June - July 2010? Yeas?

:D:D

As I mentioned in another thread about the Shuttle 9 feet, that's exactly what I did on my Shuttle 6 and it works very well to help keep it from dancing around or being pulled from the top of my pebble finish cabinet.

Yes, I think that's the one. Sorry I couldn't snap a pic at the time I had the cover off, my digital camera broke some time ago. Maybe Santa will be nice to me and bring me a new one! The capacitors and layout definitely look the same. The only difference, the plastic cover had encompassed a good deal of the 'middle of the board' , starting over by the capacitors and extending all the way to the right, where the fan is. I'm not sure that the black piece with the 4 bolts on it in your picture was part of the genz design, I'd have to take another peek to be sure. If looking at your picture, the fan would also be to the right.

Be assured that I am looking into the issue with the feet. I can not speculate on what I will find until I see one back, as the ones we checked here all sit perfectly flat.

All that sounds great - I love the sound of it with my Epi 210 - I'm gigging mine tomorrow so will report back in due course.

Well I got a chance to play it and I notice a real difference between the 9.0 and the 6.0. The bottom end has more presence so to speak. It actually sounds a tad bit warmer than the 6.0. I had to boost the high end to get the tone I liked from the 6.0. And the notes push with authority from this head. I notice the bottom feels solid and deep with plenty of headroom. I wish I could play it with some bigger cabs. I hooked up my PS112 and PS210 and the combo sounded good although the 210 kinda overpowered the 112.
