Genz Benz Shuttle 9.0 discussion thread

Be assured that I am looking into the issue with the feet. I can not speculate on what I will find until I see one back, as the ones we checked here all sit perfectly flat.

Yes and I really appreciated your fast follow up with me too on this issue. I'm still awaiting word from ThePerfectBass on the status of my replacement but it's great to know you guys stand firmly behind your amps!! :bassist:

After reading through a lot of this thread, you guys got me thinking about the feet on my ShuttleMAX 12.0

After checking it out, i'm glad to say that there's NO issue with mine. It sits perfectly level on every surface I could find including my two GB410T-XB3 cabinets.

As a side note, I checked to see if my amp was level yesterday evening and everything seems fine. I'll be using it at a rehearsal tonight with my Epi PS210 so I'll report back on how it sits on the cab.

In other news, I wish I had sold my 6.0 sooner lol, the 6.0 is a powerful amp by itself but it almost seems sheepish next to the new big bad wolf!

The reason I'm asking is because when I tried the 6.0 next to
an LMII, the 6.0 lacked in the low end and headroom. I liked
the overall tone but the Low boost was overkill. The 6.0 was
fine with a big box that had a naturally big sound, but not so
good with smaller boxes.
I don't want to go to the Max series for the variable low boost
due to the bigger size, (I'm spoiled) so I ordered an LMT800.
I think I'd like the 9.0 more than the LMT800 if the 9.0 had
a little more lows. I'm just afraid the 9.0 lows are at 80hz like
the 6.0 and the low boost engaged would be overkill again.

So true, so true. ;)

Well I had my first gig with the 9 last night and it definitely shifted a lot of air - but the gig was a fairly tough one to judge it on overall as the speaker was down by my legs and it was a full on Christmas party that meant just banging out some funk grooves without really having the time or space to fully explore the bass tones I usually do... saying that I was hitting the B string a lot all night and the 9 just pumped out a ton of bottom end - so from that POV it did the business - I also had my earplugs in (good quality filter ones) so any high end playing I did was hard to judge on tone - but generally I was really happy with the amp's performance.

The real beauty of it though is that it fits perfectly into my leather gig bag...

My one question to you knowedgeable GB types it what's the best way to drive this amp? Is it to keep the master volume low and then up the gain? I do this with my Epi 502 (I've seen Nick Epifani set the volume on his amps like this at the Musik Messe) - I'm also wondering as my Epi 210 is rated at 4ohms - could I pair an 8ohm ca with this one? As the amp is rated at 4ohms...

Your help would be appreciated

Mike

I tried this last night and had good results.....gain knob at 3 o' clock, preamp volume at ~9 o' clock and master volume set fairly low since it was just a rehearsal. I was playing through an Epi PS410 and the tone was pretty warm (also boosted lows and mids slightly) and got a nice tone. Dunno how that would stand up at gig volumes tho.

Is your 210 cab 4 ohm or 8 ohm? If it's 4 ohms, you can't add another cab as the resulting ohmage would be below the Shuttle threshold. If it's 8 ohm, you can add another 8 ohm cab safely.

Mike, what kind of bag is that? I may just have to pick one up...

I think the Shuttle 9.0 opens up a bit better with the tube gain up a bit and the master not quite so high. Keep an eye on the clip light. I set it so that I just get a flicker now and again and it seems to work fine.

Going to be getting one of these in a week, and plan on using it with my Neox 212T cab. Anybody else use this rig? Any suggestions for setting the gain, volume, master? I'm not a real tube grind kind of player, although I like an edgy tone. Do both channel gains effect the tube sound or is is just one ? Thanks in advance for any advice.

Go to the GB website and download the owner's manual. There's information about setting gain, volume and master volume as well as how the gain structure works.

Did that. So basically, when gain and volume knobs are at identical settings, you get a clean sound; when the gain is up more, you get a dirtier sound? What control do you use to set the clipping signal ?

I seem to hit my sweet spot with both at 2:00 or so. This preamp setting is the most crucial in utilizing the capabilities of the power section, IMHO.

Well... I'm at the store A/Bing a 9.0 and a 12.0 into my neox212t... The 9 is noticeably more powerful than the 12... And definitely more thick sounding than I the shuttle 6 (my backup)... But I still prefer the clarity of the Max. Man, I really wish the max came with the 900 watter in it. :)

Hmm. I have the Neox212T also, and think it is the clearest sounding cab I ever played through. I will be getting the 9.0 soon so I'll check it out.
