White Castle Burgers Aren't Grilled, They're Steamed


That bed of onions has an important job: The steam from the grilled onions permeates the burgers and cooks them without exposing them to the grill directly. They can be steamed 30 at a time (the [Invalid or Expired Link Removed] in White Castle's suitcase-sized Crave Case) and get off the grill in very little time.

Interesting. RC cooked the patties directly on the grill. And "back in the day", they were fresh, never 'frizz'.

They have videos for the entire White Album, Sgt Pepper, Magical Mystery Tour concerts. All gear is vintage as far as I can tell. And yes, nobody can touch them.

I once read that they have a contract with DECA to rerecord the entire Beatles catalog. They sell videos and CD’s on their web site. Pepper and MMT are available on iTunes, probably others.

The drummer, Fred Gehring, is the money behind the band. He ran the Tommy Hilfiger group. The musical director is Bart the bass player. He’s a perfectionist. Fred tasked Bart to put the band together.

Here's another guy to check out for Beatles covers. We had him as a guest artist at jazz camp the other year he played a couple of the Sgt Pepper tunes. Super nice guy. He lives in McKinney just north of us.

The blackface '64 would have been a small cab Bassman, the cabs were too small for bass.

Paul had the big cab Bassman in later years, probably the 215 unless he had a 1967 like I do, that was the last year they used 12's in those I believe and I think they only used 12's in the big cab for that year. I got a mid '67 drip edge silverface Bassman with 2 12's with the blackface circuit in it, it has the big cab, it sounds really good. Those cabs were sealed though so no tuning involved except their size and whatever they stuffed them with which was not much, the big 212 cab sounded a lot better than the small earlier 212 cab, lot more bottom. Mine has Eminence speakers in it though, don't know what model but they sound really good.

I used to have a '66 Bassman I bought for a project amp and the two JBL D130Fs that were in it. Amp was is pretty good condition overall. Both speakers needed a recone but that wasn't obvious until I opened it up. D'oh. Anyways, had fun working on it - new filter caps, tubes, and made a new baffle board. Sold the two JBLs for 400 and the amp with new Jensen C12Ns for 750 to a young guitar player and his dad. With parts and stuff, I might have made a few bucks. Great amp for guitar, not so much bass.

There is both a Whattaburger and a Smashburger at Philadelphia International. The alleged cheesesteaks at the airport look like gutbusters. Best cheesesteaks I ever had were off the food truck parked outside the Philadelphia Inquirer and Daily News.

The best Philly cheesesteak is a pork sammich with provolone and hot greens. No processed cheese food product cooties on me!

About 7 years ago, we got In and Out Burgers around here. To each their own, but I wasn't impressed based on the hype.

Whataburger is our favorite fast food place. Burger King has moved up the scale quite a bit in recent years.

We had In-and-Out on a trip to CA years ago. Eh, it was okay. They came to TX a few years ago and people were going nuts trying to get "in and out". Long lines backed up the traffic. Geez, guys. It ain't that good.

Power of marketing. In the 70s, when you couldn't get Coors east of the Mississippi, it was the novelty of having what you normally couldn't get. I had a FA friend that would bring me some from her west coast flights. Now you can get Coors pretty much anywhere. While I suspect the newness of the WC in Orlando will keep them busy, after awhile, the 'glow' will fade.

Coming from Vancouver, Canada (eh), my favorite hamburger is from the White Spot chain. Besides dine-in, they have car hops that serve you in your vehicle. They have a secret Triple-O Sauce that is great and I can't find anywhere else. Every trip back includes at least one visit, yum, yum .

Yeah this is a tough, tough problem. Not even the items like the Chinese booster, and Skylab and other similar big things that returned to earth (those are massive and scary regarding where/when they land). But the biggest issue is the debris in orbits: even a bb-sized piece could destroy another satellite if the relative velocities are 'just right'. Which would feed the debris collection....

I predict that some firms will devise debris mitigation tools (space Swiffers for lack of a better term). But just how effective will they be?

Note, I think space lasers (with or without sharks) would only increase the debris problem.

You are, of course, referring to the new Netflix film "Space Sweepers" from Korea. Set in 2092. It's a bunch of competing space garbage collectors. And there's a LOT of it to collect. The effects are good, but a bit over-the-top, like Transformers. Acceptable entertainment.

That was my experience with most older bass amps. Two of my least favourite were a '59 4x10 Bassman that my dad and I kept for about a month, and the Ampeg B15's they had at in the ensemble rooms at college.

A little over 50 years of playing bass, only completely happy with my amplification for the last 10 or 15.

As far as I'm concerned, we're living in a golden age of bass, gear-wise.
