Help me to appreciate matching headstocks

My apologies for the initial title. The thread became a little not fun. I've never liked matchy matchy headstocks. Exact same finish on body and headstock when plain headstocks are available and more typical of the classic look. Fenders, G&Ls, Peaveys etc. Iconic styles like Rics and Thunderbirds that always have matching or distinctively colored headstocks don't fall into this category.

Show me your matchy matchy basses...help me to overcome this mental block.

I love them. I wish I had more than two instruments with matching headstocks. If you have any unwanted matching headstock basses let me know.

Buy and gig with a bass that sounds and plays incredibly awesome. If it happens to have a matching painted headstock I absolutely guarantee it will not bother you.

for a punk band, I'd just open a can of red paint and dip the head in it.

Be sure to tune the bass first ( unless it's fretless).

Its your prerogative not to like painted headstocks.

I have a G&L with a painted headstock (the body is transparent red and the headstock is black). I think it's more interesting looking than the plain-looking stock maple headstock.

I've seen lots of basses and guitars with painted headstocks that look pretty good to me, but there is no doubt that there are some colors or combinations that are a bit funky.

After looking at the 10 pages of this post - - I think painted headstocks are awesome.

I'm not crazy about matching headstocks either. I like them if it's all black with maybe black hardware hough.. Or a flame top would be alright.

It's absolutely hideous on maple boards. That is such a warped aesthetic to me.

It's OK sometimes on dark boards...but overplayed IMO.

I have one with a matching headstock, and I'm building two more.

I freaking love matching headstocks. I never really cared until I started to obsess over Fender offsets recently. For some reason they look incredible on Fenders, especially offsets. Nothing special on other brands, maybe because of how uncommon they are on Fender. Maybe the shape of the headstock. Now I always seek out matching headstocks before settling for something without.
