I haven't tried TIs, but nearly every other brand of flats available for Hofners. I love Pyramid/Hofner strings on my Hofners. They are inconsistent from string to string, and set to set... But your supplier will know that and take care of you anyway. Once you get a good set on, you may not like any others either!! The money is a bit steep. But the sound is my favorite!

Wonderful CTs you have there. The blue one looks superb...just beautiful. I see you got one of the new ones with the more correct tuning pegs. The shape of the pearl tips are alot more accurate. Your bass looks great. THe CTs really are such a great value and the workmanship is wonderful IMO.

Peacefrog, how would you compare your German Hofner to the CT when it comes to the pickguard and control panel, as well as the fit and finish on a whole?

i rreally had to jump through several hoops to get these 2. these are the 2 models and colors i wanted. started out with an Ibanez Mikro because even though I had played 6 string guitars off and on for 40 years, I had never seriously attempted the bass and had no idea what would be comfortable and suit my needs the best. I liked the Les Paul look and decided to get the Ibanez ARTB100 to go with the Mikro. I had always liked McCartney's bass but saw the price tag of 2000! :rollno: Then I spotted the Douglas violins on Rondo for 150. Bought one and knew that the violins were the fit and sound for me. Started selling what I had and ended up with the Blue Icon I'm sellling in the classified section. I wanted a backup to that so I bought what I thought was a red Icon that turned out to be black cherry. Income tax time came and I spotted the red CT on Ebay. Sold the black cherry and got the red CT to go along with the blue Icon. Had a couple hundred left over from tax money and saw a blue CT on auction at Ebay starting at 569. (Normally they sell for 769.) So, for kicks and giggles I put in a bid for 569 knowing that it would never stand, but in the event it did, I could sell the blue Icon and use the left over money to pay the balance. I got home the night the auction ended, fired up the pc and low and behold, I was the only bidder and won it for 569!! Talk about a deal! Anyway, that's my story and I'm sticking to it! :hyper: God bless.

Hey Jack, I know what you mean. I wasn't a bass player,but loved bass and also loved Paul's bass and Beatles Music and had way too many keyboards. I sold one of my Vox Continental organs for $2400 and that helped me alot. I then bought the used German Hofner to add to my CT plus still had over $1100 left from my sale. I didn't want to end up divorced after all. lol

Well that's a tough question. The CT is great...no doubt. The German Hofner does stand out...it's like a piece of fine furniture. The pickguard, the shape and the way it fits on the bass is very close on the CT to the German version. The ICON doesn't fit the same at all and the materials used aren't that great on the pickguard even though it's a cool bass. The CT has better materials and while the pearloid isn't solid all the way like the German bass, it doesn't have the sticker that could peel off like the ICON. They did a great job getting it close to the German bass,but when you look at the pickguard side by side, you can tell a difference. The material is different and the shapes in the pearloid aren't as large or as random on the CT as it is on the German bass and it doesn't look as aged. It isn't white like the ICON,but isn't the creame/beige pearl look of the German. Same thing for the control panel. I had a German control plate already so that's currently on my CT. I still have the original one.
The German wins hands down,but the CT is no slouch at all! THe CT, looks close to the German one...very close,but when you see them both, you do pick up on the differences. CT still a smart buy! CT feels alot heavier,but we all know that. The sound is different too,but again, we all know that. When I play the CT, I think it' nails the sound...well, it's capable of it anway. If you do a side by side pluck, you do still hear the difference.

Last Friday afternoon I was at my local GC checking out some basses. As I was getting ready to leave I spotted a sunburst Hofner Icon, and, intrigued, I plugged in to an Ampeg combo and gave it a try. It was love at first sight. But, not having any money, I put it off for some future time. I guess I was meant to own one because on Saturday my state income tax check showed up, so I went back to GC and bought one. And what a deal I got! GC had their President's Day sale, so they were selling it for $299, and with a 15% off coupon I had the price was $254. Since then I've been getting to know my new toy, and I'm loving it! I love the lightness, and the deep, solid tone it has. But the rounds it came with have to go, they're a little too "boingy", so I'll be picking a set of La Bella Beatle Bass flats soon. And it's good for a lot more than just Beatle music - I run it through a Bad Monkey overdrive, and I'm in Rush heaven!:D

So how's about a number?

With La Bella Beatle flats, you will be in bass heaven! That is what I have on my Icons! Today I recorded a bass track with a friend of mine and the Hofner Icon smoked the Fender P bass I had been using.

One would have to be as big a Beatles fan as myself to appreciate this, but I met Klaus Voorman last night and got him to sign the pickguard for my Senator bass. Now I just have to figure out what to put on it to preserve it, but I'm sure my bass will sound much better on those old Hamburg songs with Klaus' signature.

Hi Stratovani, how about #34. Welcome, it is nice to see that we are all doing our part to help the economy. I agree with Rob that if you like it now, you will love it with flats. :D

That is very cool! I had to do a little research on Voorman after your post and ended up buying a copy of his "A Sideman's Journey". I little pricy but it looks great and the music should be fantastic. Voorman has an interesting history, not only with the Beatles but also with the artists that he backed up in the studio and on stage. Timing is everything and he was there at the right time and place.

Isn't the first time i read about the Icon pickguard peeling.
I have 2 Icon pg-s and after two months of use i noticed a little peeling, but it was the near invisible protective plastic sheet!
Removed that sheet (without that the pg is much more brilliant), i can't find no other sticker or peeling tendency: it seems to be a normal 3-plastic layer pickguard (pearloid-black-white). :)

Hi guys,

I would like to join the group. I received my Club Bass this afternoon and I love it! Can't take my eyes off of it actually.
