HE he he! New Ebony fretless neck!

A what? Dang, I need a Rosetta Stone for you and Markus!![]()

I have a CallowHill p-bass on order, but not a fiver yet.
Some news on my basses:
The fretless should be back next week. It's been TOO long! The fretted is one month out. There was another little mixup, but it's all good now. Not a fun experience with my bass being 7 months late, but oh well. Once it gets here, my JO26 is going back to its previous owner and I might put money down on a 5-string or another fretless DJ.
Another little update. I've had a gig everynight since two Wednesdays ago. I only have rehearsal tomorrow, so I'll finally do a lick of the month. We'll start very very simple and go from there. Sorry for dropping the ball on this.

You know the story of this pic in the Safehouse Club , I suppose?![]()
)a happy parenting day! You are getting her a Hanson I guess?![]()
well there's a pic in full scale or close on the wall of the women's room, and a moveable tin heart put somewhere in the middle of it. The heart is rather worn and the paint is partly off, so it is clear women peep under it from time to time.
And when that happens, a siren and flashing lights go off in the bar, so everyone knows another one did it![]()
You could go without and put some clear film over the area that gets scratched...and just trade it out every once and a while. That's what I would do with that bass.
It's very possible that this is going to be my next fretless:

Or, I might do a vintage tint mahogany body. I don't know what to do next, a "back up" fretless or a 5-string.
is this theme your going for?? i love it!!
im still tempted to sell a couple basses and buy this one.

I've never tried the Nordies, and you might have a tough time finding someone who's used all three.
I would say the single-coil Chis are thicker-sounding than any "regular" single-coil J bass pickup, have more mids and are relatively darker-sounding on the top end. I think they sound better than the soundclips on Lakland's site--but do compare the clips of the two pickups, anyway.
OK...latest crazy idea. I emailed Brian G. at Lakland to find out what it will cost me to (possibly) upgrade the 4-94 fretless. Here's what I'm thinking: add fretlines in rosewood (so the color doesn't pop that much but it still helps me for reference), coat the ebony board, and maybe swap the Bart system for LH. I used the 4-94 again Sunday morning during the last song of each service and the presence was better but still a bit dark and mellow for me. I did boost treble and mids and actually cut the bass a bit (mids dip-switch set to 700hz). What do ya guys think?
For the time being, I'm going to swap the Lakland steels on the DJ4 for the DR black beauties on the 4-94 fretless to see if makes any difference. Fortunately both set of strings are strung thru-body so they should line up perfect.
On another note, I'm going crazy without my fretless. I got to do one weekend of gigs with it and now it's been 3 weeks without it. Cruel fate.
I've attached the only action shot I have of it:

but if one has a new neck installed on the old body, the same SN will be stamped on the neck. Thus, two necks that carry the same identity
I don't usually, since i seem to have something up for sale most of the time, but i made an exception in this case.
the "new" neck will have a different serial number - UNLESS he gets lines put on the same neck....which I am not sure they can/will do....BTW - putting the wood lines in ins a long, laboreous process....I asked Carl about it once.....I would not have the patience!!!
jeez! I was planing to put a preamp in this bass, but listening and playing now, It dont need one! great sound.. Pics will come when I have changed the hardware to black and a new pickguard (The white makes it look kinda cheap IMO...)
Oh, Its an all black Skyline DJ5 Btw! Will be getting more lakland in the future, hehe!
... but I think it needs a tort guard...

I'm still trippin dude....U2 on Friday night![]()
Going to the studio Thursday night for a friend's solo project (singer/songwriter) - taking the DJ4 and my Dingwall! I hope the studio has some nice DIs and toys to play with.
On a side note, I setup both 4-94 fretless and DJ4 to Laklands factory specs. The 4-94 fretless actually has a tiny bit of back bow and I have the action as low as you can go. It's instant mwuahhhh. The DJ4 needed some forward bow and the saddles had to go up. Thanks Sam Ash.
