I am totally loaded and cocked to get and play her. She apperared as an effect of an interesting mock of life; but then I realized she was intended for me, because the 55 shapes, 5 string, fretless, ebony, passive, jazz, CS - these were various aspects of every single variant I was considering :) Also the killer deal that emerged out of nowhere just when I had the money - and that after a few nice deals that hadn't worked out!
As an afterthought, she deserved to be called Mockingbird :):):) But, Nessie is just it so such will be her monicker.
You have done A LOT for this to happen, so thanks a great lot Doude! Should've asked if you wished to try her out in the first place when she was still in the Chi-town, me bad...!

Nah - I just played carrier pigeon!!!! I guess it was meant to be.....you MUST have it by now....will see what later posts show.....you know...the DOUDE time capsule effect...

I've been wrestling w/ myself, trying to be patient and give the Dunn a "good" try w/ the Fralin. But, I REALLY love the look of a DS and the sound won't disappoint either of course. Arrgh!

If I sell a little more junk, I'll go ahead and order one I guess and a red or blood PG. That's look KILLER w/ an UNblocked neck :ninja: huh??

Now, just a thought. We have a 55-94/-02 3+2 quadbucker in the bridge position already. Mind you, a quadbucker! 4 coils! What if we had another one in the neck position, but with a different switching pattern: 2 coils = "single", 4 coils = "humbucker" and 2 coils = "this":

I spoke with Dan today and worked out final details for the first of two new Glaubs:

Black body w/ black white black pickguard, maple neck w/ black B&B, Chi-Sonic HB w/ a push/pull switch on the volume pot. Gonna pick it up at the shop during my tour.

The white Glaub will be done in January, but I am working that one in to a video budget. The video MUST HAVE a white Lakland bass ;)

Having said that, it looks like I can take my Sonic Blue BG off the block. I really was torn about selling it anyway.

PS - you can work a bass into a video budget? cool!!! Nothing like getting others to pay for your basses....

and such quick turn around times.....you must rank high on Dan's list!!!

I agree on your last comment...IF they had thumbrests...

a CS'd BG5 is on the short list...(BUT the "short list" is like 50+ basses long!!!)

Two months ago, the praise band I play in recorded six tunes. We have two bassists, so we split the tracks 3/3. Because of studio limitations, we had to track every instrument seprately, so I went in and played to the previously done drums & guitars. Last night the guitarist/producer asked, "What bass did you use on the studio?"

I told him it was my 55-94. "I sounds awesome," he said. "I've been trying since September to get the other bass to sound like yours but I just can't get a good bass sound."

Other bass was a Stringray 4 with rounds, which the bassist tunes to C# standard. My 55-94 has two-year old TI Jazz Flats, and I ran it direct to the board, set flat except for rolling the mids off and bumping the bass up just a bit. They have an Amplitude plugin on the Mac, using Cubase.

Haven't heard the final mix yet, but the raw track DID sound awesome. What a bass!

So, I called my buddy (a newbie bassist) who's currently saving for his first "real" bass, a Fe*der Squeer vintage vibe 60's style P. He's the guy who bought Markus' Carvin/Peavey rig recently (thanks again Markus). He went with me yesterday to hear what a REAL P bass sounds like ;).

Anyways, I asked him... he said Kobol felt better (he likes the US neck's finish), but the "red bass was punchier".

So, I can't wait to gather more opinions.

Then, I'll switch to Chromes on the Dunn, and put steel rounds on Kobol.... and do it all over again, hehehe.

I'm tellin' ya.....keep the Fralin.....nice to have various sounding basses in your repertoir.......even a "boring ole P".
