Hello my fellow Lakland lovers!

Been hanging out with the christian praise and worship bassists, and some guy called Basspraiser told me I should check out the lakland owners group. Have done so, I liked what I saw (who couldn't?) and am now a member.
Can I have a number please, whoever's in charge (Dan Lakin, maybe, who knows, it could happen one day...)

BTW, I'm staggered by the collections some of you guys have. I'm on one standard Lakland bass - a Lake Placid Blue Darryl Jones Skyline 4-string.

But I've worked it out, and one day I shall own 6 Laklands:

Lake Placid Blue Skyline Darryl Jones 4-string

Lake Placid Blue USA 44-60 with stacked knobs and flats (Herbie Flowers tribute)

Fiesta Red USA 44-64 (Pino Palladino tribute)

Markus Orange Skyline 55-94

Blue Burst USA 55-07 fretless

Tobacco Burst USA Jerry Scheff with brown tort guard.

I reckon that'd do just about anything. Especially since as far as I can tell, the Skyline DJ already does the lot! What's that I hear? a distant cry of "The tone's in your fingers!"

So, I'm waiting on UPS to drop me off a new 55-02 to replace Amber North.

I'll be glad to be rid of Amber N, to be honest. She's pretty, but she didn't work right when she got here, and though I didn't want to say anything in public, I've been angry at Lakland for a long time. They're making it better for me by acting on a promise that Dan made about a year ago, then forgot about.

I'll probably never get into Lakland religion. But depending on what I find when I open the box up, I may put my Fender P in the corner for the first time since I bought it, and may start telling people about Lakland again.

J- glad JP is making everyhing well......did Amber N go back to them?

I look forward to hearing more about the replacement....

and I am still yearning for some Canadian venison and sharing a good scotch with you!

BTW - JP likes the idea of an orange HB...so......he HAS been aggressive with new colors/models recently.....you never know...

My guess is that it gets less trans as it get to the side?

Yeah, that's what I figure as well. Haha, rekindles my hopes of a Markus Orange HB

Thanks! I think that, as a poor student (significantly poorer since getting the DJ, ahem...) I'll get better on bass and get a regular paid gig as opposed to church every week before I can justify another one.

On another topic, is it just me or do the majority of Lakland owners run their basses through Eden rigs? It just seems that the majority of pics of Eden rigs feature a Lakland somewhere...

Can't afford an eden rig either. Got an Eden Nemesis 8-inch practice combo though. Not a problem, I just go direct in church. So I suppose you could say my rig is a 6000-watt, 2x15, 8x12 monster.

Anyhoo, ta for the advice on getting a number.

Sorry for being so uninformed lately, but, is Carl back with Lakland then? Didn't I read somewhere on this forum that he left to pursue other "avenues"? Also, for those who are 'in the know'..... how is Dan doing, and how has the business transition to the new owners been?
Just curious to hear some up to date Lakland news.

Your questions have already been answered...Carl still does work for Lakland and is on the same premises.

Dan seems to be doing well...he is distributing a renewed "Harmony" brand of guitars and basses and has a few other things in the works....which SHOULD be released soon...

I think the upper horns are the same...the CNC programming has not changed....

By the by, am I wrong in thinking that the upper horn is a slightly different shape than on the Korean 'lines? It seems more... anaemic, somehow.


EDIT: Okay I plugged it in. I thought I was catching radio signals, but then I realised the jack wasn't in all the way. I gave it a good 'click' and the issue seemed to go away. I may get the pup cavities shielded anyway. I had to do it on the previous one to stop it from howling, and it's given me an appreciation for a well-shielded axe.

It really needs a setup something fierce, but that's not a dig agains Lakland, that's just life when it's New Bass Day. I'll try to get to my luthier sometime in the next couple weeks, so I can get this baby working for her keep.

Have to post it here because at work I can't access laklandowners.com (crappy old browser won't work, and they won't upgrade me).

Anyone taken delivery yet of a LOG bass? Just wondering if anyone would care to comment on owner satisfaction thus far, finish comments (really diggin it, but still prefer CAR), merits of the RW board versus the Maple (or vice versa) and any unique thoughts on tone vs. other Lakland P5s (BG, etc.).

not yet....they do not "come out" unitl November or so....I have played the protos and they were VERY fine!

tone..GREAT! we will be able to try out all 3 different pickups at the October 23 GTG (Hansen Neo; Hansen Vintage and Nordy)..

Woha.
Looks like you guys are all hatin' on the tetsuya.
And I agree - it looks outrageous. It's a bit like buying a Ferrari and then giving it all the really rubbish mods boy racers put on Citroen Saxos.
But I do like the concept behind this Lakland - there seems to be a much more 'experimental' feel to the company at the moment. And this is one person's dream bass, so lets all chill out a bit. Maybe Lakland shouldn't have put it out on general release, but by the looks of things this is a purely ESP-manufactured Lakland, so Lakland themselves know that this isn't going to be a big seller - how often do you see Lakland/ESP Shoreline basses up for sale?!

They're being a bit brave, and I applaud them for that. Remember the abuse the Decade body shape got when it came out?

I agree that Lakland has a MUCH more experimental feel to their offereings now and I THINK it will get more so in the near future...JP seems to like to "throw stuff out there" and see what sticks....

I personally like this model and am VERY interested in hearing it.....I can even do with it "as is".....for somethign different....I am not a real "pink bass" guy but this one says somehtign to me....

Do all Lakland 5 strings have 19mm string spacing? I'd like a Lakland but need tight spacing. Thanks.

It's a natural DJ4, but I noticed that it doesn't have the Darryl Jones signature on the headstock like mine does. What happened? Does the natural finish not get the signature like my LPB or the Black, or did they stop putting the signature on after a certain date, or what?

Not really important, just curious if anyone knows.

the Nautral ones were not "really" DJs...per se'.....so no signature....also, I think Lakland felt the necks would be requested for other models so......a siganture would limit the ability to swap necks with other models...

This is kind of embarrassing, but here goes......I've got a 55-94 for sale in the classifieds that I picked up used. A few people asked how old the bass is and I told them I'd check the Lakland website and get back to them. Well, to my surprise, I can't find a serial number anywhere on the bass! My DJ4, has the serial number stamped on the headstock, but I can't find anything on the 55-94? Is this normal? Please don't tell me it's stamped on the heel of the neck, because I'd rather not go there, but where is the damn thing?!?!? Thanks.

It should be stamped on the head stock. Mabe it has been sanded off for some reason?

The Skylines models have it printed in the same place. Where-as the US models have it stamped in as if it were punched in.

Also, can you provide a photo of the head stock in that area and another of the back side of the head where the tuners are including some of the neck? This will help us determine if the neck is from a US or Skyline model as the wood grain will be in different directions between the two series - by design.

How thick is the head's flat portion that the tuners pass through from front to back?

I believe (not verified) the US models also have a s/n at the heel/pocket as well. where-as the Skylines do not.

If the s/n number has been sanded off, I'd wonder for what purpose and by who - like why is the history being covered up?

hmmmm???? Gordon has some good advice for you.....you can also send pics to Lakland to see what they think...sometimes, if a neck is repaced, it MIGHT not have a serial number imprinted....sounds like a replacement neck to me....check the pocket as suggested.

I believe it's because the Natural DJs were considered the "Adam Clayton" basses, thus didn't carry DJ's signature.

I could be mistaken though.

the "unofficial" Non-AC is what it was "kinda called"....

But nothing was official...guys just called them that.

But seeing as how they were kind of a "special run" at least to begin with, wouldn't that explain the lack of a signature on the top?

maybe...actually.....for you old time LOGgers - you remmember this was SUPPOSED to be like the first or second LOG bass that we could never agree on - or get enough commitment to order.....but they made several orders so they seemed to be popular...

I wanted one....UNTIL I started playing 5ers exclusively.....

It ain't a Lakland, but since it's close.....wanted to share that I installed a J-Retro in my CS-Jazz today. Big sound, very nice match with the CS Single Coils. That beaufitul signature mids come out very nicely ánd with the midsweep it becomes very versatile.

Next weekend I'm gonna swap the CS's with CS4 Humbuckers to see what happens.

Those are lh3's wich are chi-sonics , same internal pickup. I should post some sound clips soon. I also need to post an updated piccie. CHanged the preamp..not sure which I like better...NS3TMB or LH-3.

Current State: Okay, the bridge pickup I routed in myself sometime ago. I free handed it and the router got a little caught. Thats why the bridge route is sloppy.

New preamp : Bartolini NS3TMB-18. Not as boomy as an LH-3, but theres more treble and the mids actually work. I was never a fan of the midrange circuit of the LH-3..

The 2 Holes: Going to put switches there for the Roland GK-3B Midi pickup. I'll get that in 2 -3 weeks time.

About to string her up with Blue Steels 44-125. My fav!!!

I want different knobs though.

I'll do some mp3's with my rig too, Shuttle 9 and hydrive 410. I do have some vids of Billy Dickens playing my bass, but the video is sideways. Stupid iPhone!
