For those with experience, what is best at getting off a thick clear coat?

You can use a heat gun to get the thick poly finishes off

I did up an MM2 in flat black. Looked pretty snazzy. Gave it a light relic treatment as well. I dug it!

Let me tell you, if you ever need motivation for punching holes in drywall, try spraying a good sunburst using rattle cans.

I've decided to do a refinish and upgrade on a Roadstar II RB650 that I got off of another TB'r. New pups, pots, pickguard, bridge....As for paint, I'm going from red to tobacco burst. Pretty lofty for my first refinish project.

I have it disassembled and and am about to lose my mind trying to get the body down to bare wood. So far I've used two coats of Citristrip & scraped and have sanded with a palm sander, using 200 grit. I now have a very smooth, dull, red body.

I can't wait for the aggravation of painting. :scowl:

She was pretty beat up and I've always wanted a black Spoiler, win win situation.
I finished her on July 27 2007, so now I have a pretty beat up black Spoiler

Hi guys.. would you please help me a bit with this ?

I´ve got one of these all black Hohner The Jack Bass Custom V

i got tired of it's color... so i stripped the paint off
(something like this one)

and what i want to achieve is this (a photoshopped version of the picture above)

Which is:
Part A) Paint a black matte stripe in the middle of the body
Part B) Tint the wings and finish it with Tung Oil.

My questions are:

Part A
1- I can't get Reranch products in my country, but i do can buy Rust Oleum spray cans. What's the best kind of paint to get the matte finish i want to get (among the Rust Oleum products) ?

2- How many coats of paint ? sand between coats ?

3- Do i have to spray some laquer too ? (matte?, satin?)

Part B

1- After tinting the wings, and poring several coats of Tung Oil. Do i have to do something else besides keep pouring oil weekly or monthly. ????

2- Do you recommend to spray any kind of laquer after the oil ?

Hey, I really need some help here, but it's not for a bass...

I needed a set of drums for my studio and got an incredible deal on a brand-new fusion set because the run was screwed up and the toms' finish didn't quite match the bass and the floor toms. It looked hideous, but they were nice enough drums. They have a slightly textured finish, which will actually make repainting them easier as it will stop runs, but it will prevent doing a polish-out.

I wast to put a hi-gloss black finish on them that will last. I can go cans or full-pro paint-gun application, but I want a nice finish that will retain its gloss.

I have used rattle-can "wet look" black on stuff and it initially looks great, but in about a year it suddenly goes dull for some mysterious reason.

That's not OK on this project.

So, any suggestions on this?

After stripping it to bare essentials, the world's open to you for paint and finish.

At this point since you've done something paint-wise to it already (is that right?) - then all bets are off.

No rattler is going to be able to give you what you want. It's two- or three-part poly or just be satisfied with the yearly re-strip.

yeah i was surprised. it turned out nothing like the can top. it's duplicolor perfect match GM blue metallic medium.
