I have heard rumors that Popeye was secretly taking payola from Big Spinach to hype their product.
Yeah, I get a laugh whenever I see one those on CL's and people asking 300-400 dollars, and the strings are 6" off the fretboardThe quality of lower cost instruments has greatly increased. I'm happy that better instruments are more accessible than the particle board monstrosity I started out on.

One of the weirdest but coolest logos I can think ofYou spent a lot time on that logo? Mkay I've always liked Music Man's logo with the 2 guys.
I've been a fan of MM for years so when he created his signature line I've been tempted. Was contemplating ordering one...then went to GC and bought some DR brights for my MIA P bass.. No longer thinking about the Sire now! Folks, just change your strings! It's alot cheaper and you'll find a new sound!
You're starting to sound like GNL2000. After he recently cancelled his Sire order, he suggested that someone buy a Sire and have it shipped to him if "you really want to prove how wrong I am about Sire". You might want to ask if he had any takers. Maybe they'll send you one too.
I'm not sure if you didn't notice my previous question, or if you are just ignoring it. Not that you have any obligation to answer.
I know you have a great reputation as a skilled builder and luthier and I've enjoyed reading your posts over at the Luthier's Corner. I have to say I've found some of your posts on this thread to be rather disconcerting, as well as unnecessary, to say the least.
Wow, I can't believe I read the whole thing....
Anyway, as a beginning bassist, but also a lifelong drummer who knows a quality instrument when he sees it, I am looking for the best my rather limited budget can get. I've never heard of Sire previous to this thread. I've done nothing but read up on it since(all day, actually), peeked in on the Sire Club, and honestly might give one of these a try. Just wish I could get my hands on one first, I just got burned by buying sight unseen, and really can't afford another mistake. Thanks for the heads up on this one, it's actually appreciated here![]()
I'm sure you're right. MM put his name on it so it's going to reproduce his tone. I play thru an Aguilar Tone Hammer so I can adjust the mids with its boost. The bright DR's and outboard keep me from acting on the GAS!It's great that new strings gave you a new sound. I think the Sire is just a great active Jazz. It certainly can nail the Marcus sound, but it can do all the things we expect out of a good Jazz Bass.
As you wish, sire
