Stig Pedersen from Disneyland-After-Dark has brilliantly used 2 string basses for years.
Despite the minimalist setup he's got a massive imprint on the band's tone.

Maybe it would inspire you to play something you normally wouldn't. It would break you out of your patterns.

I played bluegrass on a two string homemade suitcase bass for a while which probably is utterly stupid to some people in this thread, but guess what, we made music and the audience loved it.

Atlansia has been building one, two and three string basses for a long time too.
For me, it would be hard to justify the price of buying one, but I still think they're cool, especially the one and two string fretless.

To be honest, imposing limitations CAN bring out ingenuity and creativity. GameFreak only had 4 input buttons and 4 directional buttons at disposal when they've conceived Pokemon RGB. 20 years later, its a bonafide classic.
There's more than a few nice-looking basses there, IMO.
Revisiting this thread, something about the neck size would bother me as I've been playing guitar and bass for so long. It looks like the neck might be smaller than mandolins, just eye ballin' it. Something more along the lines of Tony Levin's 3 string might be something to consider since the neck was a little more normal.
Another reason - marketing. If nothing else Sandberg has managed to get their name mentioned in another thread on Talkbass ... mission accomplished.
Being from Oregon, you may appreciate this... Cam Neely, a.k.a. Sea Bass, played junior hockey for the Portland Winterhawks.
