THANK YOU Aaron Von Van Rock for mentioning the late, great Mark Sandman and Morphine. Yes, he did this years ago, modifying and building his own basses - played brilliantly. It's said that The Presidents of the United States were friends of his and were inspired and influenced by him in their abbrievated string use. - Not only was Mark the main writer and lead vocalist of Morphine, but also often used slide on his bass work. Totally worth the listen, imho. - (not to mention some of those 1 "string" washtub players who lay down some mean and clean grooves) - The creative mind rules over the number of strings any day. BTW - love the super-thin necks on these and the funky, goofy, carefree paint jobs. Obviously designed to be FUN.

Cramps in my left hand, can't play most octaves, inability to play most scales without moving position and a toothpick neck that would likely be twisted like a pretzel with the everchanging humidity and temperature where I live. What's not to like?
Maybe I should buy 2 and string one EA and the other DG? Kinda hard to change basses between chords or even actual notes though.
To each their own, I guess.

The bass and video has to be a joke. Look at the scarf he is wearing...a man...wearing a scarf...indoors...when it is warm outside...playing a bass...made for 2 strings.
If I can do this someday with just one string, than I will feel like a real bassist. Imagine what this guy could do with two strings:
As for MarloweDK and his uber-cool scarf, I've been saying for a long time we bassists need to embrace the scarf once more, Roger Waters style. If you can rock this outfit and play that Sandberg 2-string with the psychedelic paint job, now you're cookin'.

Yes... With the lowest string tuned as low as C1... and tuned in 5ths apart. That's a pretty wide range

If you are concerned your man-scarf ain't cutting it, just do what this guy did and clip on a couple grenades so as to add a dash of butch.

i just saw steve digiorgio play a three stringed fretless on a few songs with testament last night, and of course he played amazingly. I could see how it could be useful in certain situations. I mean, if you're not going to be using the G string its just dead weight. Of course I'm one of those guys that plays 4 stringed basses exclusively. Clearly, as is evidenced by Digiorgio, having less strings doesn't mean less skill or talent. Most importantly, he sounded great with the band. No one in the audience seemed to mind one bit, I sure as hell didn't.
Say no to the scarf...
