Sandberg Introduces their new 2 String Bass. Really? Why.

I played a two string once. True story. On a gig playing pop and rock back in the day before I took two basses to the gig. And before I knew that sharp edges on bridges could break strings, about 25 yrs ago. In the middle of the set I broke a string. No big deal right, we kept playing and I adjusted. A couple of songs later I broke another one oh s::t now what? I had to finish the set and was NOT easy, but I survived and the guys in the band said it was fine with a few missed notes. No big deal. Changed strings on the break. Then I took the bass to a friend who taught me about sharp edges on my bridge that he filed and it was never a problem again. I think I can count on one hand the strings I've broken on the gig in the last twenty years. On another note it is a challeng to pare your playing down to the basics with fewer strings, it teaches economy of notes and adjustments of position.

Practicing on the bass you intend to play on is the best way to become proficient. You are building up muscle memory and the more comfortable you are on your instrument, the less you think about the physical act of playing and the more you can think about the music. This 2 string is really just a fun distraction. Nothing wrong with it and there is nothing wrong with distractions. I pick up a fretless six string once in a while just for fun. But let's call it what it is - fun. IMHO anyway.
I actually like it and might actually get around to buying one someday. Seems like an interesting instrument to learn to play well.
I'd be willing to be that all of us need work on our horizontal position changes. This instrument may be a valuable tool to learn different scale and arpeggio fingerings. However, at the price point Sandberg is probably offering it at? No thanks.
I don't know. I think it's kind of cool...something out there for everyone.

Yeah, this has nothing to do with metal bassist's, like anyone playing that style is some knuckle dragging Neanderthal mindlessly bashing roots and the open E string with a pick, it seems heavy metal is a easy target for the ignorant.....
Plenty of commercial/popular music is even dumber than the dumbest of metal bands musically, yet that stuff rarely gets attacked...
That being said, the bassist for the misfits played a 4 string E,A,E,A bass(not metal), and max cavallera from Sepultura played a 4 string guitar(he never plays leads)... Otherwise the President's of the USA are the only group to do this(bad alternative music)....

Agree 100%. That seems to be the common attitude on TB. I love the tech info here, just not all the other bs..

Haven't you heard? Sandberg is forcing all bassists to buy one of these! Oh, the huge manitee!
It's mainly just a backup for when the good string breaks. Tuning should be E-B for obvious reasons. Also the second string could be used for soloing in like jazz or something
