SBMM Stingray Short scale

Do they Seamlessly Fit - or do you need to Mod & Drill?

I have to confess that I've yet to do the swap. But, to your point, they should fit without any mods.

Instead, I went down a rabbit hole with guitar pedals and spent a fortune and wasted a lot of time assembling my first pedalboard. I'm an old man who used to play a lot when I was younger. Now, I'm semi retired with money and time to waste on toys. Here's a picture of my pedalboard and it's not even complete yet!

Serious recommendation on the Genzler 4ontheFloor OD pedal.

I have another Cali76-TX, a Tronographic Rusty Box and Boxidizer, plus a EH Looper. It's a sickness.

How are the frets on your guys Sterling short scales? I thought mine were pretty good until I got my EBMM StingRay Special, then I realized how bad they really were especially up higher in the neck there are lots of semi sharp edges. I may try to get some kind of file kit to attempt to get them closer to my 4H special. I also recently got a Squire Paranormal Jazz bass not made in Indonesia but China. The fret work while still not up to EBMM standards is noticably better than all my basses that are made in Indonesia. The ones on my Special are suberb! They must spend a lot of time on just the frets.
My Sterling Stingray SS-4 the fret work (honestly) is Immaculate. I am still "Shocked" at just How Good it is!!!

My bass pedalboard is much simpler than that. A tuner, a compressor, a noise gate (which I may remove), an FDeck HPF, an envelope follower for one particular song where a sort of wah-wah synth-bass sound is called for, and an Ampeg preamp/DI.

I had planned on two separate boards but I only have a Cali76-TX-L, the Genzler, and the Rusty Box for bass at this point. I plan on getting an Analogman Sunface BC183 version tweaked for a bass in the not too distant future and perhaps a volume/wah pedal as well.

The only reason I have the Genzler on the board with the UA pedals is that they sound equally amazing with bass as they do with guitar. They are ridiculously great sounding pedals. And, to be honest, the OE RevivalDrive works nicely on bass as well.

Mine is snug in a Vertigo

I won't do it, I promise. It is strange though that the EB stock Slinky that came with the bass is a bit scarce and cost more than their Slinky long scale. I guess there have been lots of short scales sold recently. I have tried 2 other brand roundwound short scale strings and neither worked out well. There was not enough string tension so strings were flabby. I may give the Roto Sounds 45-90 short scales a try yet but so far I like the stock Slinky roundwounds best. It also a bit weird that the Sterling and EBMM short scale comes stock with a 105 gauge E string but a full scale EBMM Special Stingray comes stock with a 100 gauge E String. Wonder why that is?
Because the lower the gauge, the Less tension (and thereby) the Floppier your E- String will be. I will stick to the factory strings & specs. I love the Zing from the Ernie Ball strings. Makes it sound close to a full-scale too. Also the Nut-width was cut specifically for these strings = "Path of least Resistance"

I didn't want to be offensive. I have the SBMM Shortscale and don't have these issues. I like it as it is. I was just curious.
Me too. Maybe I got lucky? Everything on mine feels high-quality & performs fine. I did spend time doing a serious Set-Up (I'm OCD about any Buzz) but it sounded pretty good, right out of the box. I'm just going to Tru-oil the neck. It's not as nice, as a Satin-Suhr or Taylor (which is to be expected at this price point) - but I love it.

I like to fiddle. I am surprised at how much I like the single coil mode but I like all three modes. I have no use for the volume boost. In fact to me it just sounds like someone holding a megaphone up to the speaker. A lot of background noise when that’s on. Maybe some folks like that but it does nothing for me.
I too don't use the Volume Boost, but I prefer Low-out pickups. I use Parallel with the tone rolled downs 50% for a Jazz or Motown sound. I practice in single coil mode (tone full-up) and do Synth Bass parts in series-mode. I find all 3 to be usable thru my Rumble 100 v3.

I should point out that I didn’t like the volume boost until I lowered the pickup. Since the “volume boost“ is actually just a lack of volume cut, I wanted to actually hear what the pickup sounded like in it’s unaltered state and adjust it from there. A nice side effect is that if I switch to series mode, I can engage the volume cut and have a pretty balanced output between all three modes.
I also lowered the pickup considerably. Love the round tone and sustain. I get plenty of volume from my amp, so I am more about the Tone. Loving this Bass = great purchase.

Mine arrived pretty well setup. Intonation and string were good. Tuned it and played it. My only issue was the the 3-way rotary switch. I have DPDT toggle switch arriving today and I've been sitting on a Nordstrand MM4.2. The original pup sound really good but since the Nordstrand is right here I am going to A/B the pickups.
Aaaaaand here here is the pic!

I'd love to hear the stock pickup vs. your Mod. Please let me know when I can listen to it. I have the same White Bass. It's really gorgeous with the Rosewood neck.

I rubbed the strings in it a bit to get the swaf out. I do have a tusq nut now but I can’t be bothered installing it right now. I find the tuners totally fine. But many people on here have told me that upgrading the nut is a cheap and easy way to improve a bass. So next time I take the strings off I’ll do that.
How do you Remove the stock-Nut? Which one will you Replace-it with?

It’s a comfort thing worth me. Even though I’m 6’4” and can palm a basketball, I’ve sustained enough injuries that short scales help me to play without hurting. It only takes a few to get used to 34”, playing my 35” 5 string on the other hand does take more than a couple of minutes but I adjust
Me too. Too much tackle football. I have Tears in both Rotator cuffs. The short scale minimizes the Pain for me, (particularly) playing on the first 3 frets. I'm very happy with it. I did a Ton of research on SS basses, - before making my purchase.

Great picture. That's interesting. I find my Sting Ray a little awkward to play sitting down. It feels cramped to me. And the lower cutout is pretty narrow. Barely fits my hand/wrist.

Ed Friedland has a good review on YouTube of the Fall Out. The US model has been one of his main gigging basses for a while so he seems to like it.

Two different beasts tonally.
Agree 100% - That is the Only thing - I Don't Like about my SS-4. as you accurately said: the lower cutout is pretty narrow. Barely fits my hand/wrist.
