SPECTOR® Club - Part 38

Just wanted to say thanks to you guys for the bumps on the black cherry LX4 that's over on the classifieds. I really am grateful for the help and the kind words.

However, my shame is overwhelming me right now for saying Obelisk instead of Monolith. I will now begin a hunt for an image of the monolith to use as my avatar and retire my South Park Magneto as appropriate sentencing. Terrible, terrible, unforgivable mistake.

In my Soup Nazi voice from Jerry Sienfeld..." No Geek Creed for you!" Haha! :D :p

So is that the one to have?

Well, I'd go with that or the paradriver DI. The para driver is extremely similar, but it has a mid control and mid frequency selector and lacks the presence control on the BDDI. I guess it might be a bit more flexible, but I'm liking my BDDI just for right now.
One thing I did notice is that with everything at noon, I'm getting a mid scoop. The manual says that I should only get this with the bass and treble boosted, and to get a mid bump, I should back them both off a tad. Is that the only way to avoid the scoop, or are there other ways? If anyone with more experience with this pedal could chime in, it'd be much appreciated.

I'm down to one Bass and I'm going to keep my eye out for a Euro 5.

Only one Bass, I don't think that has happened ever.

Have you checked out this one?

I'm down to only 7 basses... but trying to get down to 4... an epic struggle in this stagnant market.

If you want an amazing deal on a 1995 USA NS-5P... I'm in good with the owner. PM for a special price> http://www.talkbass.com/forum/f126/spector-usa-1995-ns-5p-white-899383/

Thoughts are with you and your family brother, hope for the best for her.

Give me a week back on the chemo and I will look like both of you, from the eyebrows up anyway LOL...

Thanks man. So results today, my leukemia is back. I started chemo today and will have it all week with the next 2 weeks to recover crom the chemo. It will knock down the leukemia hopefully enough so I can go to Mayo clinic in Minnesota and have a bone marrow transplant. I will be there for around 3 months. Lots of time for some "Spector Healing" and woodsheding. Hopefully my NS-2 will be here by then and I can have lots of time to get to know him...

Thanks for all the support guys, it means more to me than you will ever know.

All the best - Chris.
I'm sorry that the big "L" has shone its unwanted ugly head back in your life Chris, truly am. But...you kicked it in the A*# once and you'll show it who's boss and kick it all the way to the great Abyss that it'll never ever come back! I'm here for you Chris, anytime of the day you want, call, chat. Peace bro! I hope yoUR NS-2 comes to you soon!

Yes, however they weigh a ton, I had one.
There is a later model here also but it has some cracks in the finish, It's OK as it is but it might be a good excuse to refinish one in oil.

+1. If you can't afford the USA model, the CRFMs are incredible. I used to own one without the crown inlays and I now own one with. You could always swap out the brass bridge for a newer euro one and sell me the brass one! :hiding: The tone makes up for the weight. :bassist: You could always refinish it in satin, too! ;)

The one I had did not sound as good as my Rebop, it was all stock with a Aguilar OB-1 kenobi or something like that, it was noisy with brittle highs to me. I really like the TP so far...

Have you had experience with the EMG BT pre? I don't have experience with the Aguilar pre, but a lot of TBers don't like it, although that's just an opinion. I really like the BT pre. You must have had the pre LX Euro it sounds like. But I may be mistaken. This one is the SSD model. It's all personal preference though. ;)

Oh, the first thing you should have done was rip out that OBP-1. My NS-JH5 has the OBP-1 in it and I just down right hate that pre since, like you said, it has very brittle highs. I have to keep the treble completely off or I start to cringe so thanks to Smadder, I have an EMG BQC on order that should be arriving in the next few days.

I will definitely record clips to show off the difference and I will add treble to the OBP-1 so everyone can hear what its like.

Your probably right or a TP because I like them OK and I never have used the EMG stuff in a Spector.
You know I may not like a Euro LX5 as much as my Rebop?

Hey Chris. Really sorry to hear what you have to go through again. Be strong and know that we're all pulling for a speedy and full recovery.

Incidentally (not to get all preachy) but if anyone is interested, you can get into the national bone marrow registry with a simple cheek swab. It takes about 5 minutes.

I had seen on the news this week where they take what they need from a donors blood for the transplant which takes only 3 hours and painless. No more spinal stuff. I've been thinking about getting on the donor list after seeing that.
