Squier Vintage Modified Precision V: who's got one?

Well, good luck finding a Badass V, but whatever bridge you choose, it needs to be 18mm spacing.

Thanks, I saw one on EB, I know they're not on production anymore. The guy selling it was in Europe and the bridge was used.
I finally bought the Hipshot B, but the aluminium version. Used to have a Cort bass with aluminium Hipshot bridge, it was really good.

I've been playing with this idea myself lately. I love the P tone, but I feel sometimes I really miss the flexibility and fullness that comes with a 2-pickup bass. Thinking of adding a Nordie of some type, either a Big Single or Dual Coil.

I recommend a Big Split. Almost the same tone as a Big Single but noiseless.

Well, I was kinda waiting for Sweetwater to get one in (white) so I could get the weight, but who knows how many people are already waiting in line before me.
I found one on ebay from Roxymusicshop (La Porte Indiana), asked them about it-- if I’d get a new one or the one on the wall, and stated that I wanted something under 10lbs, preferably closer to 9lbs.
they responded that it was the only one left, was perfect, and weighed in at 8lbs-6oz.
I pulled the trigger, emailed them back that I bought it, and they emailed me back that they’d set it up and ship it out tomorrow.
I hope it’s what they say it is, but I don’t really care about little marks or even if heavier by a pound, if it’s set up and plays well I’m happy enough.

I’m less fussy than many regarding pickups, tuners, bridges etc… I find most of those mods unnecessary, or sideways at best.I seriously doubt I’ll do a single mod, and since I use rounds I probably won’t be changing the strings right away, either.
I did a ton of mods to mine.. NONE were necessary. . It was great out of the box! What I did was to meet a certain goal. String through to increase the saddle down pressure for g and d strings.
Which meant new bridge. And drilling
New pups to crisp it up.. may as well replace the pots.
Wanted vintage look... modified ashtrays.
Did it "improve" it a lot? No.

If my VMP5 had weighed in at 8lb 6, then I wouldn't have modded mine as much.
I wonder if the different finishes have different weights generally? I can't see why but it does seem that the White ones and sunburst come in quite light and the CAR (which I have) basses are heavier.
Maybe I'm just talking crap, feel free to correct me. I do need more sleep in my life, that's for sure!

At the beginning it looked like there might be a trend towards the Sunbursts being lighter, but then SW got a couple of really light Oly White ones in. And a couple of heavy Sunbursts. The two heaviest ones that I have personally come across were both CAR...
But all of these samples are way to small to make it statistically significant.
Bottom line? Work with a store that will weigh them for you, or do the driving required to go look at instruments that are in stock.

My CAR p5 clocks at 9lbs.
I almost bought a sunburst one that it feels almost a pound lighter but the frets were sprouting and the action was jamerson high :/

My homemade ebony/bubinga/maple 5-string went to a 29 year old friend who works out and doesn't see why the weight (about 9lb 11oz, if I remember correctly) is a big deal. We'll see if he still feels that way 30 years from now!
Played a three hour jazz gig last night with my VMV. It was outstanding! Loved it. Only issue was I may need to do some shielding/grounding. Had a a buzz but nothing the tone knob couldn't fix. Very pleased with this instrument. Bought it used for $179 at GC and couldn't be happier for a fivestring pbass.
