Stoner/Doom Bassists Thread, Part 90: Maxed Out

I actually know two guys who are cops who are genuinely good dudes. One recently quit and one is taking his retirement early because they both feel like they are swimming against an ever growing tide of "bad apples" and they have no faith in the guys they need to depend on. Scary to think about.

My friend who told me about this sides with me. But then we got in a separate argument about what people carry.

He always carries at least one "weapon" on his person, and has taken to wearing those weighted knuckle gloves in addition.

He thinks it's normal, but I told him its excessive and no heros wear beating gloves. No situation will you be in where you should need them. And if you are in said situation and manage to survive your bad choices in life, God forbid having to explain to the cops your 100% innocent when you're clearly set up to beat on people...

if he was very obviously drunk then I don't in anyway think he deserved it. Cops should know how to handle a situation like that. American cops are waaaay to quick to pull the trigger. they seem so scared all the time. it's an axe, it's range is limited and i doubt he could throw it with any degree of accuracy. keep your distance and just watch the guy until he passes out....problem solved, no one dies. to serve and protect also means protecting people from themselves.

Kid...

"The Tarrant County Medical Examiner has listed McMillan’s official cause of death as multiple gunshot wounds to the chest and abdomen.

But Troy Taylor, chief death investigator for Denton County, declined to say how many shots were fired.

“That is still under investigation,” Taylor said."

They can't share that, how hard is that investigation anyways. How many bullets are missing? How many holes?

Was the college police, first time in 23 years one has discharged his weapon.

sometimes decisions have to be made where there is no good course of action. I doubt the University is happy it happened, but they are probably relieved it's just him, and not several people he got because the cops hesitated.

Topsy turvy stuff, and no good comes from any of it. But the kid started it, cops just finished it.

So I'm noticing when I play my SG standing up, I end up with it almost at my side and my picking and playing basically right behind my fretting hand up north to the 2nd fret or at most around the end of the fretboard, but never any further south.

I do similar with my bass, but keep it pretty geezer. This is much more extreme.

Anyone else do this or know anyone that does?

Tonight after work I got into my car and I thought I heard someone yelling something. I looked around in the direction where it was coming from and but I just see some guy walking. He then walked to the back of a truck with a canopy and opened it up as if he owned it. I still had a weird feeling about it so I watched. Sure enough a few seconds later, someone walks out of the office across the parking lot and sees the guy and kind of pauses then yells "HEY!".
The guy starts to run, dragging a dolly loaded with stuff from the truck and when it drops off the back it goes everywhere. He turns and pulls what looks like a small pocket knife and starts yelling racial slurs of all sorts and other profane nonsense. I hop out of the car and I start yelling at him to leave, he hesitated and acted as if he might come after me then he turned and ran. I helped the guy pick up some off the stuff and then I got in my car and went home.

Now I regret not calling the cops. Maybe the other guy did, I don't know.

Welcome to Methtown. It's weird that this happened today after what we've been talking about. Always lock your car in Methtown.

You pull the trigger til the threat is ended. Sometimes that takes one or two and other times it takes all of them. That's not trigger happy, that's just the way you're taught (whether you choose to agree with the ethics or not is different).

The reason they're not telling you is because the officer likely magdumped all of 'em as fast as he could. That's regular for that sort of stress, and likely out of the 17 rounds only 3 or 4 hit and the rest went God knows where else. You're not supposed to think about how cops are usually terrible aims, combined with the stress of the whole thing, meaning there were way more misses than hits. That and the fact that he dumped 17 makes it sound like "excessive force" when it's really "extremely stressful reaction."

No way I'm jumping out of a perfectly good plane. Not a fan of flying anyway. Fvck them bullfighters too. They should have a rope tied around their balls before they go out there.

Working in bars for the last 25 years I deal with a lot of police and sheriffs. They are pretty cool dudes for the most part but there have been a couple over the years that were dirty dirty dogs. Hated them dudes. One was a chick too.

Do campus police not carry stun guns? Why would live amunition be the first resort rather than pepper spray or tasers. Rather than banning axes maybe we really need to have an investigation into the training of the police force.

That being said how stupid do you have to be to go out bashing cars with an axe. Then advance on a cop with his gun already out while holding it. Inebriation is no excuse.

Denton PD was busy and sent in the campus goon. Bet they regret that.

Should have used a taser, idk if pepper spray would work on a drunk but I'm not willing to find out as a test dummy.

Once the cop has his weapon drawn he's trained to fire center mass. So yea it's best to keep to activities that don't require him to make a decision of what he should pull from his belt of man stoppers.
