Stoner/Doom Bassists Thread, Part 90: Maxed Out

Went to the optometrist yesterday for a check up and some new specs. got my eyes dilated and looked like this:
Mr_Burns_needle.png

This is exactly how I feel right now. Thank you, Mr. Burns.

I've decided to start a stoner/doom band. I will play bass and background vocals and have posted adds for drums, vocals, and guitar or keyboard.
Any tips? I'll be using a '08 P-Bass with SD SPB-1 and a 1980 Peavey 400 Mark III with a MusicMan 115 BH.
You'll need more than a single 15. Get or build a second one of those and you're well on your way to the dooom.

You on your period? Get two 815's.

;)
Actually, from a physiological perspective, women are chemically/hormonally most similar to men when they're on their period. So, being on the rag would be further reason to get two 815s, as if anyone needed more reasons to get 815s.

/nitpick

Well I also have a Peavey 410TVX cabinet at hand. The problem is, most gigs are in closed-space clubs and if you show up with even a single 410, they tell you to turn down.
Transportation is as good as your car is :)
Here's a pic of my rig of stoner/doom.

Start playing better places. "Turn down" is not in the stoner doom vocabulary.

Hey thanks for posting this. Reminded me to go listen to some crazier stuff, like Dimmu Borgir

Which reminded me of..
Love me some Goatwhore.
Then there was some Cradle of filth. It goes on and on.

So it's black metal day here.

Dimmu Borgir is "crazier stuff" now?

GOATWHORE! Bummed they weren't on the west coast leg of the Celtic Frost tour back in 2006. This song has some serious CF overtones. Love it.
I saw them with Emperor a few years back. They weren't that good. Also they kept insulting us.

I have zero love for modern Gibson anymore, but I have developed a weird obsession with the cheaper (at the time) 70's models. I keep buying and selling them, but not because I don't like them. Usually always for fundraising reasons, where I'm selling off all my supporting players for a new star.
Modern Gibson = suck
Old Gibson = win

I saw Boris in Santa Cruz last night. Simply epic.

The venue was small enough for me to scope out their pedal boards. Mostly the usual suspects plus a few hand painted mystery boxes.

Wata had a stack of three, yes three, Roland Space Echoes and a fourth tape echo box I didn't recognize.
You know, I would have loved to have heard that Boris was playing in Santa Cruz the day before the show rather than the day after.

What's a donner?
A member of a large extended family and group of people who traveled with them who got stuck in the Sierra Nevada during winter while trying to migrate to California and so had to resort to cannibalism.

Alternatively, the mountain pass through the Sierra Nevada that is named for the Donner Party. Interstate 80 goes through that way.

Well today is new amp day for me ao I guess I'll do an introduction. My names Jared, I play in a neurosis meets crowbar meets weedeater band called Centaurus. We just recently started playing together so we dont have any recordings yet.

Anyway the important stuff. My signal chain is a spector rebop 5mm into a turbo tuner into a darkglass b7k into a fuzzrocious demon king. From that it runs through a carbon copy into my new verellen meatsmoke head. From the verellen into a dually.

Welcome to the only thread you'll ever need! Nice rig, can't really do much better than that, you should do some clips of your set up so we can hear that crispy meat smoke tone.

Dude that sucks I've seen them a couple of times and they've always been really cool. At least Sammy was. Never spent any time with any of the rest.
And Dimmu Borgir/Cannible Corpse/et all are about at my threshold for out there. Can't do Baby Metal. Not Japanese enough.
I'll have to give Aborgir a shot tomorrow while I'm cruising around.

That's a sweet rig. Which speakers you got in there? Which builder crafted that for you?

Looking sharp dude! Glad the dually is working out for you. The demon king is my all time favorite gain pedal too. Nice setup!

Indeed. After my dad ran out of gas in LA during the Rodney King riots and a kid getting killed in the apt complex next to ours from a drive by. My old man said F this we're out of here.
Luckily a bunch of black dudes helped him push his '62 Chevy Panel Wagon into a gas station. He saw them approaching him. So he reached behind his seat where he had a gas can and a tire iron. He was prepared for either situation. They said hey you need some help? So he pulled out the gas can, and said yeah, just ran out of gas.

I was in L.A. for the Rodney King riots, and the O.J. fiasco.

My parents were in LA for the riots as well (I guess I was too in a sense), we have a bunch of photos my dad took of the city from back in the hills with fires dotting the cityscape. They moved pretty soon after all that blew over.

I generally don't do black metal, but I'm pretty fond of a lot of black metal. I generally like the weirder ones best... so here are some recommendations, I guess.

Melechesh is awesome

Primordial are only sort of black metal these days, but still awesome.

Borknagar is always pretty epic

On the more extreme end of things, there's Anaal Nathrakh, being ridiculously harsh but also epic in their own way.

My favorite American black metal bands are Ludicra and Agalloch.

When it comes to Japanese metal, I vastly prefer Sigh over anything else.
