Suggest a flanger pedal

I use the BF-3, have for about 6 years, and it is ok but pretty subtle. On stage/rehearsal it sounds good, on playback it is much more subtle. But turning up the regen for more swoosh seems to make it more prone to tonal drop-outs. Also, it has a modest built-in boost that I wish I could defeat for use with other effects. Alone the boost is great, along with any other effect and the gain increase can be tough to deal with. It also auto-glitches in a very unpleasant way when sent through a feedback loop, so not much use for extreme weirdness, either.

I'll probably see if I can find the Maxon and the DOD Fx75 somewhere for myself, but the BF-3 "will do", it's just not absolutely wonderful.

to be honest, the best way to go is to buy an mxr phase90 pedal.it s cheap,
and very user-friendly...plus you get 3 effects for the price of 1.
way up left,it s a flanger,in the mid position-it s a chorus/phaser and way up right you get coolest sounding vibrato/tremolo....didn t quite picked up on bf3...dunno,i guess i am
satisfied with flanging sounds on my phase90....

But a phaser is not a flanger, and that pedal doesn't meet my control requirements at all anyway.

This pedal gets lots of affection here and ranks pretty high on my acquisitions list, but this is the 1st time I've read such a comment about it... no offense intended, but forgive me if I am a wee-bit skeptical...

:eyebrow:

Ok... sounds like you want a Paradox TZF in small pedal form. No such thing and even worst, they are no longer made. However, one of the smaller pedals I have been impressed with is the EBS DPhaser. It sounds like a flanger more than you may think. And there are plenty of internal controls as well as external. You should at least check out the website and listen to sound samples.

i still hail mxr phase 90.
i know phaser is not flanger,but,like i said,you should try it,don t be sceptical.
i wanted to buy a flanger as well, but phase90 sounds superb, and sits wonderfull in the mix +has this unique warmth, that i wouldn t give away....
and YES turn your pot to the left, and you WILL have a flanging sound
cheers!

This guy shoots down everything suggested, maybe he's just looking for kicks or something .. I don't know. Just get a BF-3 if you want cold and sterile. Based on your criteria, I don't think what you are asking for exists ... but what do I know.

So what are you getting?
A flanger.
I think at this point you might want to do a little research. Lots of good suggestions here but none seemed to help or even be appreciated.
There is always someone pointing out a flaw in the pedals you suggest, a way in which it doesn't fit my criteria. And it's you guys saying that there is no pedal that does fit, which is equivalent to saying I don't need to check out any of the suggestions anyway, because none of them are what I want. And I do look up all suggestions I get here. Also, I really do appreciate you guys trying to help me, even if I haven't decided on one yet.

Yeah, all 28 posts are in this thread. I suspect window shopping and liking to talk to the sales clerk.
Nope. Window shopping wouldn't have gotten me the pedalboard I have now, and a flanger is next on my list, so I will get one.

Your sugestions and their flaws:

Blackout Effectors Whetstone: Not a flanger
BOSS BF-2: Only affects higher notes, out of production
BOSS BF-3: Thin sounding and subtle
DOD FX-72: Not available where I live, out of production
EBS DPhaser: Not a flanger
EBS UniChorus: Not enough controls
Foxrox Paradox TZF: Too big, out of production
HBE Frostbite: Too big
Ibanez FL-9*
Jack Deville Mod Zero* (A bit big and expensive, but has extra features, will only get this one if it's significantly superior to all others)
Line6 M-series: Too big, is a multi effect
Maxon FL-9: Too expensive
Moog Cluster Flux: Too expensive, too big
MXR M117R: Weird power, too big
MXR Phase 90: Not a flanger
Source Audio Tri-Mod Flanger: Too big
Starcaster Flanger: Subtle, cheap
Subdecay Quasar: Not a flanger
TC Electronic Vortex*
Toadworks Barracuda: No "manual" control

Does anyone have any experience with the ones marked with an asterisk? Any reason I shouldn't get one of them? Any suggestions I missed, or pedals that haven't been suggested yet?
