I wish I could get my hands on one of the early injection mold reverends. They seem fascinating and probably really light.

They are indeed an interesting build; I've not seen anything like them. The phenolic finish (Formica!) is quite practical - it doesn't stain or tarnish and cleans up really easily. The injection molded sides do yellow after a while, but they can be cleaned up with a magic eraser.

They do go up for sale from time to time. I just sold a PJ recently (listing was in the classifieds). You should be aware though that their weight varies. I haven't weighed the two I still have, but the PJ feels a bit on the heavy side and the classic Rumblefish (an early example with the Ken Armstrong pickups) on the light side.

Okay, I'm officially in the club. I'm working this evening and I will not be able to give it a run thru but my initial impressions are..

1. Holy Cow, them Bricks is big!!
2. With thew 19mm string spacing at the bridge, the Fretboard is almost as wide as my BTB 6 string.

I bet it sounds amazing but will have to wait for tomorrow to plug it in. I'm a fan and I can tell reverend does it a bit different.

I have a set of D'addario XL Nickels on order. I do love it but I wish it had a similar neck to my "Mule bass". It's hard for anything to feel as nice as the Zelinsky z-glide.

I know man. I'm slow rolling finishing the wall, need to find some oversize plates that are not white.

Until I grabbed the Dub King a few weeks ago, all of my basses were long scale. Truth be told, I have medium to small size hands and have always felt the long scales are a bit of a stretch in the lower frets...

Thanks for the reply @Gee Man (and also @lermgalieu). I have pretty large hands, but as long as the tones are there and it feels good I'm pretty interested. I've been trying to see if there are any places near me that have one in stock. Feeling is believing.

Got a great setup and it sings!!!! I like the neck width because there is enough space for me to dig a little.

It feels like a jumbo jazz neck.

Who else Top Loads their Rev Basses?

I put a new set of nickels on this evening and instead of going thru the body, I top loaded the ends at the bridge because that's what I've always done up to about 2 years ago when I got a new Lakland. When the Mercalli was delivered it was strung thru the body and I could see where the strings were digging into the wood under the bridge.

I know it really does not make that much difference, I was just curious as to other Rev owners habits, and why.

I'm down to only one Reverend these days (Raymond); but I have always strung my all my Reverends (Triad, Mercalli, Decision) like this rather than through the body.

Wouldn't dream of going thru-the-body...I'm big on tapewounds.

I bought some of the through body la bella DTFs for my mercalli. Can't say I notice any difference compared to my other regular bridge loaded basses with the same strings. If I ever have to change them, I'll opt for a regular set and see.

I'm not sure I can feel or hear any difference. There is less of a break angle over the bridge but again, whatever that changes it's not noticeable and damn, that REV bridge is a beast. I'm continually impressed with the Reverend engineering.

Just joined the club with a new Mercalli 4 in Alpine. Stringed it up with a set of TI flats.

Wrt to thru body setups, I did string mine thru body. Now I'm not sure what the differences would be otherwise, I haven't tried it top saddled. But I will say that the body resonates in a way I've never experienced before and I've never played a thru body before. I can feel each note through the body. Maybe it's the thru body setup, maybe the korina body, maybe the high mass bridge, maybe the sum of it all. Who knows.
