I have never tried any spraying myself, but imagine two important items are:
- Good spray equipment, as opposed to rattle cans
- An actual safe place to do it.

Both are a problem for me.

Would love to strip and stain a body, but ours is poplar, and I have read that staining poplar evenly is troublesome. Which is code for: "don't climb down that hole, Frank. Don't."

regarding an actual safe place, you want keep large pieces of dust, pet hair and leaf debris off the finish as you work - where i live, most breezes carry dust and the air around here is dusty in general. it also needs to be where nothing can bump into it or rub against it, and it needs to be secure so that it won't fall.

I am compiling a compatibility table for possible neck and body swaps among short scale Fender basses including the Mini-P, Bronco, etc.

Here's a video of me spraying the translucent red for anyone interested. I am by no means a pro at this and I'm just using a Koblat HVLP gun.

I appreciate you guys wanting to send me your bodies, but this has taken me almost 3 months to strip, sand, paint, seal, build coat, and sand, and I'm not even done yet. :laugh:

It's easier to use a colored clear than the dye or stain. Just paint the color on.

How much of a difference did the pickups make?

I have to say, while I try not to be a Tone Snob, I am still not thrilled with the sound of the Mini. It's better with a string change (the factory strings had a weird chorus-like sound), but still sounds kind of hollow. I have a Norstrand NP4A pickup on order, not sure how much that will help.

I do not know yet. Still waiting on the pickguard. I'm not a very good player, so I probably couldn't tell anyway. I just enjoy working on things.

I agree. The sound coming out of mine is simply wonderful, and I'm highly impressed how responsive it is to plucking position/technique.

To be fair, I think the sound of my €67 Costway P strung with €15 Addagio flats is wonderfully olde skoole, too.
