Thunderbird Club

Question for you VP types or others with similar bridges. The action on my VP is reasonable but the bridge is very high on the E side and almost bottomed on the G. I use a small amount of tilt on the 3-point but this seems excessive.

My other question is do you lower the pickups like V does on her vintage bird? The 760s seem real hot.

Mine has quite a bit of tilt, more than any of my 3-points - but that's what works for that bass.

As for the pickups, I run them up as high as they will go without hitting the strings, but i do that for almost all of my basses.

I play almost exclusively with a pick (still trying to learn finger-style well enough for it to be useful), but I probably don't play as aggressively as V.
Most of the time :D

Oh- I didn't understand... No I'm not selling my CP at all! I'm letting the Peavey head go just because I have more amps than I care to keep around. Amps are like cars at the end of the day, they get me someplace, and for the most part I don't like to keep a pile of them around...
The CP has definitely found its home with me.
That’s great Rog, for some reason I thought you were thinking of selling the CP instead of the Peavy because it would sell quicker.

Glad to be wrong.

My VP two point has some tilt but not a ton. As for pup clearance, mine are set about 1/4” from the bottom of the strings to the top of the pup when the string is depressed at the last fret. I only play finger style, but at times very aggressive.

Decided to order the SIT Power Flats for the VP. Only $31 delivered.
 I'm gonna order a set for the Embassy. The kinda old EBCFs I'm using sound good; a fresh set of Power Flats are gonna make it sing.
UPDATE: Ordered 1/21. Should be here Friday b4 gig.

I raise my pickups on my Epis. V taught me that.

Got plenty of pine here. We’ve been ordered to at least knock it down. We’re on the local arborist’s list to get it done. Just knocking it down is the average price of a Thunderbird. To have it completely removed is about what V paid for her ‘63. It’s on a steep slope…Once it’s down, bring your saw and cut as many slabs as you want.

choice..

Thanks! We can and do get very heavy at times. The guitarist just started playing that 2 chord vamp. I knew it was a Sabbath tune, so I tried to channel a bit of Geezer.
Actually sounded great! Would have liked it even more if your bass playing (which was fantastic) had been a bit louder in the mix, drums and guitar came through just fine.

Solid mahogany NR body. Fender Jazz spec Wenge/Wenge neck (headstock will be reshaped to my standard design). Parchment pickguard with tug bar. Nickel or chrome hardware. Epiphone 760probucker pickups and two piece bridge (from VP/Embassy donor). Tonal goal is “punch and crunch” which is opposite of my 22NR (it’s more smooth and groove) so I’ll be moving both pickups closer to the bridge. It’ll likely be a slow build due to some critical health issues that just surfaced in the family that will obviously take financial and time priority.

Sorry about the medical thing, I get it, just lost my mom last month. Please, no condolences ya'll, sometimes that brings back the grief.

So many questions, is that a stock Warmoth neck build, or did you use the select wood option? Is the body from that Ebay site? What weight is it? How are you going to move the PUPs? Are you done with the VTVT experiment, or are you going to run it VVT given that the Embassies are VBT? Sorry, that's it for now.

Thanks George! It was recorded with a Zoom Q2n-4K in my music room.
We are going to set up for multitrack recording and record whole sessions.
