Thunderbird Club

Not very much. I stopped measuring. I like a straight neck with no buzzing. I go by sight, sound and feel. Every neck is different so some arbitrary measurement is at best only a starting point IMO.
If it's mostly playable, I don't adjust it. One more thing I never get done.

High school friend had one. $400 in 1974. The top had a hole in it though.
My brother had a hardtop. He broke it in half by spinning it into a ditch with a tree in the ditch. It didn't have seatbelts, which is a no-no, but in this case, he was thrown into the passenger's seat as the tree demolished the driver's seat pretty much all the way to the transmission tunnel. My brother was bruised and had some cuts, but was fine, if a little sore, the next day. The car ripped in half when it was pulled out of the ditch. His next car was an AMX. He didn't break that one in half. It handled a whole lot better than a Mustang.

I looked at Mustangs when I bought the Camaro in 1980. Most '60s era Mustangs had rusted frame rails to the point that they were likely to break in half. It was fixable, but beyond my budget at the time. The Camaro was completely solid, which was rare for central Ohio. Still is.

Agreed on the wide range humbuckers! Bought this based on your and @godofthunder59's feedback. Loving it!

Stop posting those '51 & '54 P-bass photos, I feel a g.a.s. building up. Three of those in my arsenal and I still need at least one. A normal unmodded '54 style (2 tone burst with a white pickguard) plus a one with two wide range buckers in Squier Rascal positions and one '72 style with an added wide range 'bucker in a Stingray-ish position ala Kenny Gradney. That's three actually, I need three. 3.

‘72 you say?
I kinda did what you’re suggesting.

Yeah, but that's a P. I meant a '72 style Tele with another 'bucker like Kenny Gradney had.

Sounds awesome on this clip:

…Or maybe four if you’d like those wide range humbuckers in a NR Bird body…

…why stop there, they sound great in a semi hollow as well.
The bird in the middle is still in progress, if it sounds half as good as the Tele on the right it’ll be a roaring success. God I love those wide range humbuckers! In my book tied for first along with Greco Tbird humbuckers.

Wide-range humbuckers, you say? I bought a pair of the basses years ago hoping they'd be all I hoped they would. Very hot output and probably the coolest Precision bass there is...BUT! I still go for the Epiphone '64 Thunderbird FIRST.View attachment 5491909 View attachment 5491910

hmmmm……BOTH!…

Well, after my recent visit to the doc.
(Which by the way my cousin, who’s a PA says, I shouldn’t be as healthy as I am), he meant that jokingly)
No more food like that for Jeff.
My only battle now is my extremely high cholesterol.
Otherwise this guy can rock on for years to come.

Alcohol can flush out cholesterol. :hyper:

I had TI Jazz flats on a Ric ten years ago or so. I couldn't ever get the sound I wanted out of that bass. I thought TIs would get it closer to what I wanted to hear, but they didn't. So it goes.

I tried TI flats at one point and especially for what they cost - they didn't do anything for me either.

TI’s have always been hit or miss for me.
Mostly a miss.
Now a big fan of Dunlop String Lab flats.
I had a G recently break.
I messaged Dunlop.
Talk about great customer service.
They’re not only replacing me with a full new set, they’re sending an extra set as well on the house.

That right there is the right way to treat your customers

Unlike La Bella. I had a set of black nylons that the silk on one ball end was twice as long as the others. It went way past the saddle. I called to ask about a replacement and they said it was within their process control spec and too bad. If 2x is process control, they have neither process control nor customer service.
