Winter NAMM 2018 (ultra Pic-heavy)

That was it for me for NAMM for this day. I made my way to the Phoenix club for the Bass Bash.

The showcase thing they had in mind ended up getting scrapped but I'll be around again tomorrow making noise...my pedalboard is downstairs at booth 1102 if anyone is interesting in playing through it and the 3000 watt tube amp setup they have there

TSK started the show. They were great, and got the crowd going.

However, this was the Bass Bash, and @TonyP- was taking that spotlight.

Next up was Julie Slick. She was playing guitar, though, not bass. That was supplied by Marco Marchera.

I just stayed for a few songs, then left. Long, grueling days, and still 2 to go! That's all for tonight.

Roscoe's Chicken and Waffles!

Hey, wintremute, just a "thank you," for trekking through Winter NAMM '18 and your photojournalism reporting here. It must be quite overwhelming and a blast at the same time. Was wondering: Aside from potential sightings of Roscoe's Chicken and Waffles have you seen any of Keith Roscoe's offerings? It's been said that there is no Roscoe booth, but Roscoe may have some basses in other booths. Needle in a haystack? Thanks, again.

I see you found Jazz Bass Land. I was heartened on Day 1 when I didn't see so many, but on Day2, it seems the trend continues - nothing but Jazz Bass copies. My hat is off to manufacturers who don't go down that road and do something different. I'm even willing to compliment manufacturers who modify the Jazz such that it's smaller, lighter, more comfortable, sounds better (yes, it can be improved).

Gotta say I get more and more fascinated about those instruments that bring forward the wood materials instead of hiding it under thick paint.

Today I learned that I have no idea what my next bass will look like haha

Unless someone sneaks in a surprise new bass, you’ve helped me narrow down my likely purchases for this upcoming year.

I’m tempted to ask TB for the biggest letdown! Mine would be the odd pickups on the Rick 5, but their suggested price is $500 less than i predicted.

My .02:
The boutique guys continue to build their product line with a few new models

The rest of the world re-copies Fenders made in the 60's

Fender still has an extensive product line of their copied instruments
Fender actually has new bass designs for this year!
So the most copied, iconic, manufacturer introduces more new models than any other company

Sounds like the are going back to their roots; building new instruments that look different than the competition

-I'm very impressed with the 2018 EBMM lineup; roasted necks and black hardware really class up the place.
-I like the MicroBass by GoldTone solidbodies; the single-cuts looks really sharp.

Has anyone checked the Yamaha booth? I saw some pictures of a custom BB that looks great.
