XO Bass Micro Synth

All I can say is this: it's about damn time. I've asked EHX about some of the details - true bypass, tone suck and all that good stuff - and, since it was a Friday, at about 8:30 pm (somehow, I was awake, after driving for nine hours; note: Michigan is a lot further from Wisconsin than you'd expect), I do not expect an answer until at least Thursday, though EHX usually responds to my good questions within two days. Not the ranty, "how dare you destroy eBay" questions, but, rather, the questions related to the functionality of the Polychorus.
 
I'm glad to see they didn't make it less functional -- this isn't a pedal that could spare to lose anything (ala Micro POG) - if you took away just one function it might be worthless

You know, I think I may have been the only person in the world that was really disappointed that they pulled SO much functionality out of the POG for the micro. To lose the +2 octave, the detuned sliders AND the LPF was just too much.

Hey bigchief,

that came out wrong. I own neither POG just yet so I can't offer an opinion on that. I was only trying to say that a MicroBMS wouldn't work, and people seem to be asking for just that.

Dang, and now you guys mention the loss of LPF in the POG I guess I'll need to wait for a POG XO before getting one.

I heard as well from an EHX rep that the circuit is the same, don't know how they've done the power with it, maybe it is 24v.

But it clearly says 9VDC... but maybe there's some sort of voltage pump inside?

But then there's the issue of positive ground (which will be a BIG problem if they indeed did not modify the circuit)... and having a voltage pump technically means the circuit is not the same...

See I thought voltage pump first but 24v is such an odd voltage especailly to get to from 9v

Either way I don't think I'm getting one :p
 
Does it? or is it just a doubler where it doubles 12v into 24v and 9v into 18v?

Nope... it has three settings controlled by a three-position switch: 12, 18, and 24VDC.

It's bulkier than the Diago equivalent, but works well. Unfortunately, the 24VDC pedal I tried to power it with happens to be a PNP-transistor-based design (The EHX Bass Micro Synthesizer). With the proper reverse-polarity 2.5mm barrel plug attached, it worked rather well... until I daisy-chained it. :hmm:

Hence, my concerns about the power requirements for this new BMS. It had better NOT be another "positive ground" fiasco like the Nano Muff and Nano Clone! :scowl:

But my Voodoo Lab Pedal Power 2+ will power it anyway. :D
 
Guys with a voltage changing circuit it doesn't really matter what you put in, with the correct topology you can get almost any voltage out with the right opamp. 9v to 24v is really not a big stretch of the imagination. . . What I do find a big leap is that EHX haven't added this "charge pump" circuitry to any pedal that they've current XO or Nano'd. Who knows - maybe the original didn't *really* require 24v? :)

But my Voodoo Lab Pedal Power 2+ will power it anyway. :D

Not only does it say 9 VDC, but the big pic on EHX.com clearly shows that it's center - negative, just like most of your other pedals....

It'll be interesting to see what the deal is.

Eek!

Someone try it out before I sell my BMS. I'm even worried that if I sell my BMS I won't get another one that sounds like this one (it's got a weird relationship between the stop freq. and the rate slider). I think they were smoking crack when they made mine.
