Yamaha Peter Hook Signature Bass

I wish I had paid $999. I don't have any buyer's remorse at all, love mine, but that $1299 did hit hard.

Yeah, I paid $1299 for mine too, but I have no regrets. I love the way it sounds and plays.

I love the way it sounds too. I still need to dial in the setup a bit more to my liking though (lower the string action), haven't had a chance to mess with it much. I'm thinking about putting the same/similar gauge of strings that Hooky uses on his Shergold: .100, .080, .060, .050, .050, .045. Don't know if my fingers could handle that though on those high strings, let alone if I could tune a .045 to a high e.

I'm quite satisfied with the stock string gauge: 105-85-60-50-40-30. They work just fine and my fingers appreciate it. I run it onto a Fender Engager Boost pedal (clean boost to match the volume level of my active BB734A), then into an EHX Bass Clone>amp.

I just put a set of Hooky strings from BassCentre on my BB1200 (105-85-65-60) and it does definitely have an effect on the sound. I'm curious how it might affect the six string to have the heavier gauges on the high strings. I'm using a Bass Clone too at the moment, I have a vintage Clone Theory but I need to do some repair work on it. Supposedly they're similar to each other, I haven't had a chance to use the vintage Clone in a working state so I don't know if I can really verify that or not.

Call me fool or ignorant, I had to google who the hell Peter Hook is.
That was not the music, I ever listened to. He might be hero or legend to someone else. But, I cannot name one single song played by him or his band(s).
However, guitar looks fine.

Love Will Tear Us Apart?

Or the cover from Joy Division's album "Unknown Pleasures"? :

Does that ring a bell?

Don't want to digress too much, but would love to hear your thoughts when you get the vintage CT working on how it compares the the Bass clone
Maybe start a thread? And tag me :D

This thread is full of digressions, no worries. At the end of the day it's still related to Hooky so... close enough ;)

I will definitely let you know how they compare. I can't really properly record so I don't know if it would warrant a full thread on its own. I'm basically just waiting on the parts to come to fix it, it needs the Chor/Vib pot replaced I believe based on my testings. I ordered a few from TaydaElectronics last Monday, and they're being sent from Singapore. Hopefully that should get it up and running, I'm fairly confident that's the issue with it.

i can confirm My Yamaha Hooky bass from ZZounds has stayed State-side... now in a nice TSA approved hard case... although the included gigbag is good. Rarities deserve a nice case...

Any idea how many were created in total?
I believe the figure is somewhere in the 200s, maybe around 250ish? There was a post on basschat, claiming the actual number of basses made for the states was actually like 17, the post also had the total number but I can't recall what it was exactly.

Actually I believe it's 357 worldwide.

Ha! More rare than. PRS John Mayer Nebula color! Too bad we don't get that level of collector pricing though!
