Your 3 ultimate rig's

One I've got in part: Aguilar DB 750, Epifani T-112 NYC, but currently lacking the AccuGroove Tri112L part of this equation.

Then, a Walter Woods Ultra and an Epifani UL902 amp; pair those with either of the above cabs or a Schroeder 1210/1212.

3)
Peavey T-Max head
4x12 cab x2

All three of these rigs will get me through anything. And I already own everything but the 4x12s. :D Only things I'd consider adding: 400W all tube head (Peavey or Marshall) or a high wattage Ashdown head.

I know I've played this game before, but why pass on a chance to show off? ;)

Swap out preamps for options #2 and #3. After the recent Alembic F-1X vs. Eden Navigator thread, I'm thinking about picking up a Navigator to make option #2 available. Maybe a Glock pre for option #3???

[Assuming the interlocking corners will still interlock & I'm sure there are ways around that if they don't.]
Have you tried all three ways of vertical-vertical stacking your cabs?
1. stacked on top of each other in their upright position -- normal (upright/upright);
2. tweeters at the top and bottom (top cab upright/bottom cab upside-down);
3. tweeters in the middle (top cab upside-down/bottom cab upright).

I'd think you'd get a different sound for each one and better throw & dispersion from your 12" drivers with any of these three setups than with the pictured setup.

I'd venture a guess that #3 would give very focused mids & highs.

Of course YMMV, but it might be worth a try.

Isn't that sort of like the D'Appolito (sp?) array concept? I know back when "The Advent Loudspeaker" was big (and they still are - I'm looking at a pair right now!), they used to market the "Double Advent", which basically had the one on top upside down, just like your scenario #3. It sounds great, BTW!

Ooh, that's a tough one to answer...there's so many different amps out there that I love!

But...

#1 would have to be my current main rig, with the addition of one or two more preamps for different textures. Right now, my main rack only has three preamps: an SWR Interstellar Overdrive; a Trace Elliot V-Type, and a JoeMeek VC1Qcs (that usually only gets used for it's optical compressor section, but also makes a great bass preamp). To this I would like to add an Ampeg SVP-CL for that classic Ampeg sound, and possibly a SansAmp RBI for good old analog SS goodness. All of this runs into an SWR Power 750 power amp, and out into a Trace Elliot 2102 paired with a Trace Elliot 1153. The only thing I'd change outright is the cabs. I'd like two SWR Son of Bertha's to replace the Trace cabs.

#2 would be a Trace Elliot V-Type head with two matching Trace Elliot 1248 cabs. Unfortunately, I could never move this rig without another person and a van. I have the head and one 1248H that has seen better days.

#3 would be a Mesa/Boogie Walkabout Scout 1x12 combo. I'm very impressed with this amp, and *will* buy one, eventually.

I'd also like:

#4 a Mesa/Boogie Bass 400 or Buster Bass head with two Mesa 1x15 cabs

Yes; there's some high-end stereo stuff that uses that arrangement (like the [Invalid or Expired Link Removed]).

That's where I got the idea for SD's cab stacking experiment.

here we go...quick question, does unlimited $ mean I can pay someone to lug it around for me too?

1. Trace Elliot V-8, Bag End Q10BX-D 4x10, Bag End S15X-D 1x15

2. Aguilar DB 750, Epifani UL310 3x10, Epifani UL212 2x12

I cant think of another rig right now, but those might hold me over for a little while.

No, I haven't... but interesting. I will have to try that sometime. From a practical standpoint, the stacking in the picture is by far the best option I can think of. Vertical stacking would require removing the casters and placing the amp rack elsewhere, as the stack would be too tall to place it on top. Add in issues of where my ears would be on any given stage and what the audience might get, stage v. mains, and it seems unlikely that the sonic differences would be worth a lot of extra hassle. Nonetheless, I hadn't thought of these possibilities and agree it would be a very interesting experiment. I'll post or PM if/when I get around to trying it! :)
