How did your meeting go?
It went well! It was a bit more than a personal meeting. There's a winery next door to Joe's shop. He booked Michael Manring to play so a bunch of bass- and Zon-adjacent folks turned up for some good wine and excellent bass playing. Afterwards Joe and I went to the shop to finalize details.

I didn't ask for a timeline (I think the black 8-string bridge is probably the longest lead item), but he has emailed me since meeting that he has glued my wood together. At this point I have seen everything for my build in his possession except for the neck and the bridge.

Curious did you get a tour of the shop while you were there ? If so did you see quite a few bass at various stages of competition.

This recent post makes me want to reach out to Joe again to see where my bass is at. I feel like every time I ask I get put on the bottom of the list!

I didn't get a tour necessarily, but I did see a lot going on. There were a lot of bodies in various stages of completion, but some were guitar bodies from the builder he shares a space with, so it would be hard for be to guess how much of what I saw. Plus I came straight from 3 or so hours of wine and Michael Manring, so I was really trying to stay focused on my task :smug:

No way! That was a cool hang. I kinda got the vibe that he was using it to politic a little bit. I thought it was pretty cool and humble if him to serve everyone pizza.

I'm not big on the whole selfie thing but I did have my wife get a picture of Michael, Joe, and I, while Michael and I are holding our vintage Zons.

So how are you getting along with it so far?
The instrument appears to be too precious to be sent overseas with the regular logistics at the moment thus traveling in a private way without any dates specified. So far happy with the photos. That would be very interesting to compare the sound with the existing one below.

I am so jelly now!
I dig Manring's music, and have lusted after a Zon Sonus 8 ever since I first read about it in Bass Player back in 1996!

Enjoy!
