    Any drunk gig stories?

I once got a bit too drunk, and over the course of my 45 minute set accidentally unplugged my bass about 6 times and tried drinking out of the wrong end of a beer can. Turns out I play just fine drunk, loading up the van is where it got tricky... Dang stairs + snow combo...

Wives at out of town gigs??

I have brought a girlfriend to out-of-town gigs, and it was fine. As long as you make sure she is taken care of and there is no hassle for the rest of the band, I see no reason why not.

How does your band write music?

In my band, someone generally presents the other members with something, a chord progression, rhythm or pattern of some type. Some base of a song. Then we all jam on it a bit and see what comes out in the wash. It gets refined over time and eventually becomes a song. Some cool stuff has come out...

Please give my band page a quick glance and offer feedback.

As far as the songwriting goes, that sounds good. A couple of the songs start out sounding very similar, with the same feel to them and all. But I like it, even though it is a great distance from my usual music choices. I didn't hear an out of tune guitar, but then again, I don't have the...

Band drama. Can I please have opinions?

This could start a new thread, but it amazes me that a member of the band described here actually thinks gigs will come. Especially when the drummer doesn't want to do it. Amazing how many people I have met like that. On topic: OP did exactly what I would have done. I am shocked you waited so...

Are we supposed to enjoy rehearsing?

I personally love rehearsing. It is always fun to play bass period, and playing in my band, creating or perfecting our music is rewarding as heck. It helps that I love the people I play with, and we always have a good time. I do like gigs better though, there is more chicks there than in the...

    KICKSTARTER

For Obscura's, the offered anything from Digital downloads, a copy of the album on release day, T-shirts, all the way up to autographed items, special thanks in the liner notes of the album, and dinner with the band. They had many things offered, from $5 pledges given all the way up to $2k...

    KICKSTARTER

Obscura is using kickstarter as a place to "pre-order" the album they are releasing. Pretty cool idea. Depending on the size of the gift you give, they give you better and better pre-order packages. I think its a cool idea as a site, but I have never used it myself. Probably will in the future...

    C'List...think this is spam?

Bad grammar always leads me to believe it is some kind of scam. And how does she have no phone availability but internet access? I have to believe that an oceanographer would have access to a phone, and would have to have gone through enough schooling to use proper grammar. Or something close to...

How important are personal beliefs in bands?

I try to avoid bringing up the aforementioned bad topics (race, religion, politics), but it sometimes gets brought up. Drummer of the band is not afraid to hurt feelings, so sometimes takes a shot at a political ideal or person I support. I have to bite my tongue until it bleeds sometimes, but...

    Quitting unstable band with friend

Your background musically won't get in the way, unless you let it. My band is a pretty good example. It is a death metal band, but 2 members are from a death metal background, I am from more of a radio metal background, only dabbling a little bit into the super heavy metal, and a guitar player...

Acoustic B115 NEO mis-priced on GC!

The GC price was not the norm when I bought it. I even looked around on google and other sites. Oh well, still a good price for broke people like me!

Acoustic B115 NEO mis-priced on GC!

Pretty sure this is a goof. Cabinet is priced at $400 everywhere else, here on GC it is $180. I already bought mine, and it is sitting in my house as I type this. So, if anyone wants a decent cheap cab, buy it up! Here's the link: Invalid Link Removed

Am I unusual for expecting people to communicate efficiently?

I HATE when people don't get back to me promptly. I understand people get busy and all, but I shouldn't have to wait days for you to type back a simple "yes" that doesn't even fully answer the question half the time. One of my pet peeves.

    First Gig

RELAX! If you get too tense, it is going to all go downhill. Just have fun, and be sure to remember the experience. Really, even if it doesn't go perfect, it will always be your first gig, so it will always hold some sentimental value. Pretty much everything else has been covered. Let us know...

Emailing prospective bands--What should be required?

Dude, you were not wrong in any part of what you asked for. Even if you do have sound clips or whatever of you playing, this guy sounds as mature as a 12 year old who just got his first guitar and wants to play Kurt Cobain. I bet his lyrics are all deep and stuff. Oh, and the keys they play in...

    Major Band Issue...

You just gotta throw yourself out there. There will be some pressure auditioning, in any situation. You just have to go in confident, and play your best. Don't talk yourself down or up, tell the people exactly who you are and what you are about. If you have limits (can't read music, don't know...

    Issues with band

I would leave. The guy sounds like a massive dink, and you shouldn't have to put up with it. If you are a member of the band, then you have a right to know when rehearsals are, and especially when gigs are. If he (they) are cancelling rehearsal constantly, that tells me they either think they...

    CD's done!!!! Now what?!?!

Another idea I just had, see if there are any local record shops that keep local bands CD's on hand. I know there is one here in my town that does. Might sell a few that way.

    Recording EP!

Oh man, he looked pretty crappy by the end of his 8 hours playing some pretty brutal metal drums, but he was very happy his turn was over. He even did one song all the way through, in a single take, without stopping! I think that was the crowning achievement of his drumming career, cuz that...

    Recording EP!

I like both of those parts of that post especially. I know we will probably nit-pick the crap out of it, so it will take some extra effort to just say enough. And I guess I can see where Mike Mills is coming from, I know there are cool little fills or whatever that I like in songs we play, but I...

What songs to post on websites?

So, I have been thinking about this for a while. My band is recording its 7 track album, but should we put all 7 on the web for everyone to see? Or, should we simply put the best 3 or 4 on there, and use that as a reason for people to buy the album, for the remaining tracks? I am torn, because I...

    Recording EP!

Oh man, it has been a lot of "whoa, that is cool!" with the drums. I admit I am nervous to have my bass picked apart, but I am sure I'll live. We got all the drums done in 8 hours, so that was good. We are hoping to get the tracking done for each instrument that fast, but we will see. I love to...

Yes, we are getting it mastered. The whole 9. Since our guitarist/vox is going to school for production and recording, its all FREE as well. We knocked out drum tracks Saturday for all 7 songs. It was a 12 hour ordeal, from load-up to going to bed at 6:45 am, but I wouldn't have changed a thing...

Last.FM takes artist submissions. It is basically the same concept as Pandora if you are not familiar. I think they pay royalties on each play or something as well, but don't quote me. Check that out for sure.

What do you do to stay awake on the drive home?

Well, usually I can pull all-nighters pretty easily. However, I have gotten desperate a few times, and pulling over is not my thing, I always want to be home like NOWza. So, its either drive 100mph (not a good idea) or punch myself. Haven't knocked a tooth out yet! :bassist:

Slow Periods: How Does Your Band Spend Them?

All are good ideas, depending on what everyone's "views" are. Personally, I would work to stock up on your suggested back end things, and pound pavement. I am a workaholic when it comes to my band. But, some people might want a break to either just get away from a band situation a bit, or to...

    Musicians without transport

I would punch him in the face and tell him to buy a car. Seriously. HE needs to take responsibility. If you want to be a musician, you need to transport yourself and all your gear. I put up with that crap in other bands, but never again. Someone without a car is a HUGE no-no for me if I ever...
