Saddles bottom out on new Spector Euro (set neck bass)

I think that Turnaround may be correct about the seasonal adjustments but Reedt2000 has a good point about how it can affect your mental being.

Double Bass Best Musician in the Band -- Get a Different Band?

I have been playing since 1962 and usually with better players. It has been a rewarding experience. Now, at 74 years old, I am with players who have progressed since joining and it is rewarding also. Both situations have there benefits.

    Bass theory question

This is one answer that could cover all the basses, ha ha: If using A440 as the reference then the note is 38.89HZ.

Differences between this three cab's backs

Another factor is that 1/4 inch connectors have a pretty small contact area on the tip and higher wattage systems benefit from the speakon connectors.

F Hole Plugs for Hollow Body Basses

I have experienced another type of "feedback" on acoustic electric basses. It is not the Hendrix type but the sympathetic vibration of non muted open strings. Thus also occurs on solid body basses but seems to be exaggerated by the nature of the acoustic instrument. The better an instrument...

Had an idea: Fretboard grid with white/black squares like a piano

Wouldn't every kèy have different flats or sharps? I don't see how this could work. Maybe I misunderstood the OP's intention.

It had to happen... (shipping disasters talk!)

During several jobs working where I was involved in receiving shipments by UPS, this is what I heard while the trucks were departing: Loud sounds of boxes falling. I can say no more.

    intonation and bass building

Wow! There is fantastically great information posted here. It could be compiled and posted as some kind of reference for anyone setting up instruments, especially electric basses. Has the OP answered the first question about if the 12th fret intonation test was a fretted note when compared to...

Double Bass Leaving my carved bass for two months - store in bag or out in the room?

I have always understood that any string instrument should be kept at playing tension of the strings. What you do regularly should be fine (in or out of the case). The only difference while you are gone is that it won't be speaking (singing).

Aux in for '68 Ampeg B15

I recommended a simple mixer without realizing you requested info on pedal type devices. It looks like there are multitudes of these pedals and good suggestions from our TB folks. Happy shopping. Finding new equipment is a lot of fun.

Are my shim and bottomed out saddle screws putting too much pressure on my bridge?

I feel that the saddles are not correct for the bridge. Don't know exactly why they are on there, but they don't line up somehow. The strings shouldn't have that much lateral distance to be "in the groove".
  22. DanDBassist

Are my shim and bottomed out saddle screws putting too much pressure on my bridge?

If they were to be swapped the grooves would be off the edge of the bridge plate. The photo I showed was of a completely different company and was only to show how the saddles should be in alignment with the string hole in the back of the bridge and not be pulling the strings to one or the other...

Are my shim and bottomed out saddle screws putting too much pressure on my bridge?

If you were to loosen the strings to where there is very little tension, do the saddles then line up with each other? like this? I have seen saddles that don't fit the bridge. And are you adjusting the height screws so the saddles are parallel to the bridge plate? Sometimes different height of...

Are my shim and bottomed out saddle screws putting too much pressure on my bridge?

A photo of the strings path between the nut and the bridge might be helpful. We would be able to see the alignment along the neck and then provide some more help.

    Backbow options....?

Sometimes a higher tension set can help a minor back bow. If this does the trick, then a heavier string can have a lower action and may not feel much harder to play.

    Generator rant

A few years back at an outdoor event that had improper power destroyed my Gallien-Krueger 1001RB. The best tech (and long time friend) in town checked it out and told me it would probably be too expensive to repair. I have been bummed out ever since.

Does the Ampeg PF500 have a sensor for quality of AC voltage?

I remember it not turning on at a venue (dive bar) but has worked fine everywhere else. The AC outlets seemed ok with other equipment. I am in the United States and the voltage selector was on 110V. It is an older version amp.

Anyone know how to take the baffle off of a Late 60's Fender Dual Showman cab

Question to all about the construction of the grill cloth and frame. By cutting the cloth off, wouldn't it give a more advantageous access to doing whatever is necessary for getting the frame off? And I think it might be a good idea to remove the speakers, for their safety.

Bass Combo Amp: possible to use it to hear your sound AND others as a monitor speaker?

    Bass older than you?

You and I are in the same boat. A bass would have to have been made before June of 1951 to be older than me. If one was available, there is no way I could afford it. But, I love my 2 year old Ibanez ergonomic multi scale fanned fret short scale.

    Quitting my band today....ugh.
