My main Bass These days are a Gibson SG Standard Bass fra 2010, I love this Bass:hyper: My Music Man and Tobias Basses don't get much playing time these days.

I actually do not like the sound of the DiMarzio Neck Pickup, I think the original SG neck pickup sounds sweet. But the supertone bridge is a big improvement, made a big difference on my SG bass.

as Carol Kaye says, foam on top of the strings if you use a pick, and under if you play finger style.

I have 2 active basses a Tobias and a MusicMan. I use both of them gigging and playing them almost everyday, and a battery seems to last forever, I change them once a year just to be sure. If I measure the voltage after a year It still says 8,9 volt, so don't worry, just change the batteries...

I would say the precision flats is what you are looking for, I think they have this midrange snap you are looking for played with a pick. But they are light gauge in shortscale but I don't think they feel floppy. (cheap too)
